Pete Fountain "Will" - First Draft

First Draft, Petes Review.
"WILL" - Pete Fountain

Nest Egg Records

I'm on my 4th listen of this album today. I'm a little biased so I'll try and keep it objective. Produced by Adrian Stuckey and Eddie Rayner at Big Note Productions, "Will" is an eclectic selection of tracks from the extensive repertoire of Mr Pete Fountain. Petes been floating around the NZ scene for a few years and this is his debut presentation as a solo artist. The first single "Just For Today" has been garnering network radio airplay and the video has been getting fine responses. It's hard to pigeon hole this. Its pop, but its adult pop with a Kiwi/Pacific feel. It wont compete with the styluses or Steriograms, but will sit nicely next to Tim Finns new album or Bic Runga, and if the kids get it, great, but I'm not sure if its really for them. It's full of grown-up songs from a 30 something that has seen a few things and is kinda content, having spent his teenage angst. The instrumentation is wonderful and sparkly, crisp with a touch of Mr's Rayner and Stuckeys brilliance. Rumour has it that an acclaimed Los Angeles studio was ditched in favour of a Te Kauwhata/Mt. Eden combination, which gets the nod in my opinion. You will really like this. If you wanna taste test, you can watch the video at http://www.petefountain.co.nz and if you want to talk to the man himself then check him out at http://www.myspace.com/petefountainnz

I guess thats all I can say, he's bound to be touring shortly so get in on the ground level and I promise you will have a fine ride! If only all the grownups in NZ music could put away their toys and make something as heartfelt and mature, damn there goes the objectivity aye? Just listen, you'll love it.
