2.06pm - 5pm Music 101
Sarah McMullan hosts 3 hours of brilliant music from Aotearoa and all over the world as well as interviews, reviews, live performances and documentaries.

This week: we move from Austin Texas to Papakura South Auckland for interviews with indie six piece Okkervil River and The Situations;

Nick Bollinger reviews the much delayed film soundtrack 'Idlewild' from Outkast, and 'Rogue's Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys', a Hal Willner (Pirates Of The Caribbean)-produced double-disc set of contemporary reinterpretations of sea chanteys.

There was a time when getting to record 'in a studio' was the pinnacle of achievement but technology has changed the playing field. Trevor Reekie talks about these seismic shifts with 'Bungalow' Bill Lattimar of The Lab studios, a 25 year-strong studio operation that has housed some uniquely talented engineers and a client list that included seminal artists from Flying Nun, Southside/Wildside and their own in house label Deep Grooves;

And at 4.30pm we feature Part 1 of The Real Story of Punk Rock in which outspoken pop culture impresario Malcolm McLaren reassesses the origins and influence of 'the music of the anarchists'. In this first episode, Malcolm McLaren takes it back, way back, locating punk's roots in the lopsided rhythms of the Caribbean.

3.30pm Breaks Co-Op Live at Leigh Sawmill
Over summer Breaks Co-Op's Hamish Clarke and singer Andy Lovegrove played around the country in support of their second album 'The Sound Inside', enlisting the help of some of Aotearoa's finest musicians including players from Goodshirt, TrinityRoots and the SJD Band. National Radio captured Breaks Co-op's laid-back sound live at one of the friendliest venues in the country - Leigh Sawmill - before they set off to tour Europe.

11.06pm Gore Gold Guitar Festival/ 2006 Country Music Awards
Tonight we are broadcasting a black tie celebration from the Gore Gold Guitar Festival with the presentation of the RIANZ Tui for Best Country Album and the APRA Best Country Song awards.

'Tamworth' by Jools Topp was named the APRA Best Country Music Song. It is about the major Australian Country music event The Tamworth Country Music Festival, one of the most successful annual gigs on the Twins' calendar. Shane Warner received the RIANZ Best Country Music Album Tui Award for Absolutely. Nashville resident Warner couldn't make it to Gore so his Tui award was accepted on his behalf by friend and fellow musician Peter Cairns.

The other finalists in the Best Country Music Album category are both South Islanders. Ron Mitchell didn't have to travel far for the awards - the Gore resident was a runner-up with Low Down Country and Jacqui Watson from Oamaru was the other finalist with Uncut.

The Gold Guitar Awards are now in their 33rd year. Up to 5000 people attend Gold Guitar Week and around 700 artists enter the various categories of the awards. The Tui award is now in its third year at Gold Guitar Week giving country artists the undivided attention they deserve.
