looks like the AK show was a classic. From Spare Room...
#######
With the old lineup together and on tour for the first time in 26 years, you could be forgiven for dismissing this as a nostalgia show. After all, Hello Sailor and Hammond Gamble were in support, and it's tied up with Radio Hauraki's 40th anniversary. And yes, women's undergarments were thrown Urlich's way.
But heard live after all this time, Th' Dudes' iconic kiwi songbook, including "That Look In Your Eyes", "Right First Time" and "Be Mine Tonight", has not dated. Classic they may be, but these songs sound as current as the day they were written.
How these songs, so adult, original and emotion-grabbing, were written by five young men fresh out of Auckland's Sacred Heart College, will always be a mystery. The men performing last night on the St. James stage played with surprising freshness and vitality - the energy was definitely there. It's as if they never stopped.
it was absolutely stunning. Hammond Gamble was nice, Hello Sailor was good - does Graham have to be drunk to get on stage? Very tedious behaviour. But Th'Dudes were outstanding. Absolutely outstanding. So much energy, so tight and Urlich was an absolute star.
Sounds like you had a great night jackie, loads of good music .. okay the odd drunk .. but if he's good that's not too much of a problem, alittle rock and roll ;-) tho if he really was off his face maybe more of the roll :-).
