So Maori are gifted Canterbury, which becomes an independent Maori state.

Over the next fifty years, with backing from the USA, this new Maori state alternately invades and/or occupies Nelson, Marlborough and Otago, taking over territories that had nothing to do with the original partitioning.

Now, if you were an inhabitant of Nelson, Marlborough or Otago, might you not feel slightly aggrieved at the behaviour of this new neighbour?
