Forums: NZ Music,

Oh, the music that i'm looking for is the rock. The rock history IN the New Zealand =D

If you're keen on getting one of those old-fashioned book things, I highly recommend...

This educational website with a very condensed version of NZ music history might also help you:

ahaha. this bit from that site is classic....

"Because of the influence of the Seattle grunge scene, rock music in New Zealand goes through a bland phase, with bands like the feelers, Stellar*, and Zed sounding almost identical to their American counterparts, displaying no trace of their Kiwi origins."

Yeah, whoever it was that wrote that site must be pretty awesome...

that's a very small selection to get started with, anyway. I'm sure as you browse around the various sites I've linked to, you'll find out plenty of info about other bands that have come and gone over the years.

// Shihad, and, um no-one else of note?

I mean, as far as touring offshore, some success level of international success.

There's gotta be some others. HLAH?

anyone else?

Didn't Supergroove tour Europe noizy? Or am I horribly mistaken?

don't know, actually.

pretty sure they didn't get any international distribution, though.

Hmm ok. Well, regardless, he should check them out!

Push Push did Aussie didnt they? Blaaa- ooow!

a number of the Flying Nun bands did the international thang in the 90's, Bailter Space moving to New York plus did the UK/Europe thang, a number of acts pased through the UK ), Clean reunion anyone) and The Bats shared the headline spot with Radiohead in 93 during both bands US tour - of course all this can be found via the Nun site :)

Loads of bands of differing genres did the Aussie thang, Weta moved there blah blah blah

but I guess the 90's was all about OMC and Crowded House (though CH are not strictly speaking a NZ act)

Ohhh, is that what the nineties was all about? I thought it was about reaching for the lasers in the middle of Woodhill Forest at about 3am, as the mothership lands just to the left of the DJ booth.

Oh look, a talking baboon with a handful of little orange things!

// Oh look, a talking baboon with a handful of little orange things!

Mikey Havoc might take offence at that.

Surely you jest, Noizylad.
Does anyone else remember Push Push's live rendition of the Chills' 'Leather Jacket'. Awe inspiring.

What about Supergroove? They were a fantastic 90s rock/funk/soul/rap band, and the more dancey rhythm might go down well in Brazil. Their best of compilation is good, and I wouldn't be surprised if you were able to download one or two of the bigger hits like Can't Get Enough or You Gotta Know. Thanks for being interested in NZ music man! Are there any Brazilian bands you reccommend us checking out?

the 'mint chicks' are ace
if you like 'the datsuns' maybe you will like 'two lane black top'
