"Something must have been said to Zidane. He is actually a reserved and inoffensive person," said the the World Cup chief organiser, Franz Beckenbauer.

even given ZZ's heritage, it's hard to imagine he'd get that riled up about an insult like that. He's played in (arguably) the most racist soccer environment in the world for a few years now, so you'd think he'd have a pretty thick skin when it came to taunts of any kind.
Personally, I reckon Materazzi's actually banged ZZ's wife at some point, and took it upon himself to let ZZ know at that particular moment, with some crucial bit of irrefutable evidence...
