So, 8 years after MTV was pulled from our airwaves, it's back, although not as a free-to-air channel this time around.
Much was made last time of MTV being used by TVNZ as a Max-TV killer. Having served its purpose (Max lasted about a month after MTV's launch, I seem to recall), MTV then disappeared, its job, seemingly, done.
And this time? Has Sky got C4 and Alt TV in its sights? Is there enough room for another dedicated music channel in what is, on a global scale, a tiny market?
Nice to read that Hard news link regarding Max TV, thanks for posting that - I'd totally fogotten about all that stuff... That was certainly a shitter of a time.
Officially that would be a 'no comment' on my part, but good on ya for asking ;o). MTV has a pretty strong global philosophy on programming and the like, so perhaps it would be pretty safe to assume that NZ's version of MTV may not differ that much to Australia's format? Take a look at the link below and y'all see what you think...
Funny/odd re-reading that max thing after so long, not much has changed, yet so much has
MTV only adds to viewer chpice and hopefully better options for the viewer via more interesting programming (please god not dumberer) thus the viewer is the winner in MTV coming to NZ, farking spoilt for choice we are
As long as C4 keeps the Family Guy running they got at least one viewer :)
sits back and awaits digital TV, then things will get real interesting
I think the MTV reality tv programmes are something that make me switch channels away from C4, so i'd not exactly be concerned if they were moved to the MTV channel
I'm not sure how many more Pimp My Ride, Pimp My Crib, and Pimp My Wife shoes this world can handle. When will Squeeze make a comeback, when will Jane Yee pack on a few kilos, when will the fat cat bullyboys stop opressing the masses with their lowest common demoninator shows
I think its great that they are back - sure there will be a balance of Imported shows but the difference will be in the locally produced shows, something the other two networks never quite got the grip of.
Await abuse.
I think we will find a pretty sharp production team 'out in the field' bringing in the goods.
People that have tried and tested funny shit already in other territories of the world.
Juice is a family run business and the nicest people around, I don't think they give a toss.
C4, however I feel never really understood how important locally produced shows are the winner- seem to be struggling to find qaulity content.
Maybe Im well wrong, maybe they do have great content and Im over the hill.
End of the day its great to have choice, which hopefully we will have.
Ahh, MTV Europe worked for me because we had no other free to air channels at the time. Except I learned way more about Oasis than I ever needed to know.
I'm all for another music channel. I give the 3 we have now a fairly decent work out with the remote so another can't hurt. Just so long as it limits its use of Ashton Kutcher related products...
Isn't the purpose of C4 supposed to be a 'surrogate' MTV... With the REAL MTV hitting NZ (for the second time!), maybe C4 could be too much of a competitor
