Anyone an X-men fan?
I really liked the last two, except for the cheesy one liners "do you know what happens to a toad when it is struck by lightning....same thing as everything else" almost spoilt the whole series for me. I am a wolverine fan and am growing my side burns specially. I have to say that magneto is just cool.
I heard mission impossible 3 is surprisingly good, better than the last two, but I think ill give it a miss. Somehow the series fails to capture the charm of the original, and Tom just makes me cringe now. He seems like such a cock.

I didn't really like the first X-men movie, however Part II was ace.
M:I 3 is quite good, as long as you are expecting a popcorn movie, you won't be disappointed. Tom Cruise aside, Hoffman and Simon Pegg are quite good. Heck, even Lawrence Fishburne is respectable. It is slick and the explosions etc entertaining. The only thing that really lets it down is the ending.
What I am trying to understand at the moment is the fuss about Beat Takeshi. I watched Violent Cop the other night and it was really average. I have Boiling Point at the moment, so hopefully that fares better. And what the hell was Takashi Miike thinking with DOA: Final!?! Part two was really good and different, then Final goes all lame.
Has anyone seen 2046? That is another disappointment for me. Perhaps I was missing something, but how did it get all those rave reviews? I think I enjoyed Flaming Brothers more.

I have seen 2046: Wong Kar-Wai's previous movie, In the Mood for Love is one of my favourites. I can't say that I'd rate 2046 so highly, but then I did manage to spend an early part of the movie asleep, so I owe it to the movie to see it again. I do think that the people who got most out of 2046 are those who have a general familiarity with the film-maker's work.

I was looking at DJ Shadow's site the other day and saw Wong Kar-Wai directed a video for 'Six Days'. Had no idea. Haven't seen any of his movies, though, and don't particularly like DJ Shadow, so I guess that all makes perfect sense!

Fair enough.
To continue my Beat Takeshi speil, I watched Boiling Point last night and it was a lot better than Violent Cop. So now, I guess, I get the whole Beat Takeshi is da bomb, yo thing. He has a really good sense of comedic timing.

it seemed like 2046 totally lost the plot to me.. I mean, compared to In The Mood For Love which was totally awesome. (not that I didn't absolutely love the design / story in the futuristicy bits).

Yes, Comics and geek are compulsory bedfellows.
Its an interesting phenonomen, people come round, look at the wall, say what are those, "Comics, hah", then immeadiatley start leafing through them.
Theres a film callled "Mallrats"? which has a comic geek in it, and he stresses out over Handling and Packaging issues.
I have found this quite true to life.
So, yes, Geek be me.

I used to collect connan comics and hulk comics. Used to be able to pick up heaps in second hand bookshops when I was as school. I was always facinated by the ads on the back of marvel comics that advertised xray specs, sea monkeys... The ads where always the same, yet I repeted had to look through them and dream about owning them.

Kung Fu Hustle is one of my fravorites at the moment, makes you want to grab and axe and dance. There was this movie on TV recently called something like after 24 hours or 24 hours later. I really like those post apocolyptic type movies, e.g. cherry 2000, mad max, waterworld(yeah, strange as it sounds, I thought the concept was good and the captain was great "we will suck and savour the sweet flavour or dry, land").

That would be 28 Days Later, the hilarious sequel to the Sandra Bullock vehicle only this time instead of going to rehab, she gets eaten by a zombie in the first 2 minutes that weren't shown on TV.
Saw Spider the other week and fuck it ...
Saw Spider the other week and fuck it was amazingly good. Quite difficult to watch, not necessarily for shock value or whatever, but just the bleakness of it and the long and slow sequences of Ralph Fiennes muttering to himself and rubbing wallpaper or floorboards or whatever. Miranda Richardson plays two roles awesomely.
