hey there! i live in berlin, germany and will be in NZ from july 15th till august 1st. i unfortunately don't know that many artists from your country, but really want to check out the scene. it'd be great if you sent me suggestions about bands, venues and hang-outs on the northern island. i am a lot into indie and singer/songwriter stuff. artists of my current playlist are: jose gonzalez, anthony & the johnsons, spoon, bonnie prince billy, editors, xiu xiu, andrew bird, wilco and flaming lips. looking forward hearing back from you! cheers, ralf

yoohoo... for post punk sorta stuff check out Shaky Hands and the Mint Chicks, for ummm, indie sorta sounding bands... try Phoenix Foundation (although they're from Wellington, at the bottom of the north island), The Reduction Agents, and Ryan McPhun and the Ruby Suns, The Glory Sea.
in Auckland there's a bar called Schooner (quay st) that hosts cool music, and also the Underground Bar (Wellesley St) on Thursdays, Edens bar (K Rd), The Kings Arms (France St).

Actually, just go to www.cheeseontoast.co.nz and I'm sure you'll be able to find some bands you like through shows posted on there.
