What is everyone doing this weekend?

What is everyone up to this weekend? I don't have a lot planned. I am considering seeing pluto tomorrow night in Wellington. I have a bunch of gardening to do, and now that I am finaly recovering from a cold Ill really put my soundroom through it's paces and unleash the drums. I had this crappy sinus infection that went for a week, then I got another cold on top. misery.

Even though it it feels really 'dead' in my soundroom, it has a strange echo to it. It could be sound bouncing off the drums, maybe it is so still that you can hear every little bit of sound reflected that you would not otherwise notice.

Someone lent me the DVDs for firefly - the tv series. The movie Serenity is really just an extended version of one episode of firefly. I love that show. The characters are fantastic, they sort of grow on you. I did not think much of the movie, but now that I have watched most of the series I am really getting into it. I only have 3 episodes left to watch =( . That should sort me out for tonight. I might get a box of those frozen mini chocolate eclairs and kick back with a drink.

For those that don't know firefly, it is kind of like a Western Scifi (by coincidence one of my old bands was called firefly). The programme was pitched as a comedy scifi which contributed to it being cancelled (also they played it out of order so people found it hard to follow), but really it was a character study. I think it has the same writer/producer as Buffy? I never saw it on tv, but they used to show it here late at night.

Forums: The Bar,

If I had new episodes of anything at all with Joss Whedon's name on it, I wouldn't be leaving the house. As it is, tomorrow there are about a thousand (read: three) gigs on that I want to go to, and tonight I am playing Quiz Mistress to the work social club. The best kind of liquor is the kind someone else pays for...

I hope some of our workmates aren't getting an unfair advantage by reading the comments on that post.

Our workmates don't read the internets! Besides, they're all scruptiously honest and wouldn't cheat like that.

//and tonight I am playing Quiz Mistress to the work social club//

aha quiz nights, so boring, talk about getting old.

// I hope some of our workmates

when I say 'our', I mean 'your', of course. not withstanding our wellingtonista workmates, I suppose...

//not withstanding our wellingtonista workmates

Well that's true, and boy it's great to get paid to write about Wellington all day long and have such a large entertainment budget.

But my other workmates would have no reason to be on the internet. Not with our company name being what it is and all...

I hope some of our workmates aren't getting an unfair advantage by reading the comments on that post.

Firefly rocks :-) Great show, pity it got canned.

This weekend I am going to a going away party for one of my oldest friends (got married, now he's going overseas!) - straight after that I'm missioning up to the Carter Observatory to play a gig with Spartacus R (plug plug plug). Should be a good day, if a bit busy.

Sunday I'm going out for lunch with my partener and her folks, good hangover cure, and then proabably going to take care of my kitten who just got back from the vet after being hit by a car (poor things shaved and can't walk properly).

Hmmm weekends, I remember when they used to be for relaxing!

// take care of my kitten who just got back from the vet after being hit by a car (poor things shaved and can't walk properly).

Oh no, poor kitty! The upside of this is when they're well again, they'll still have short-haired patches from being shaved, and you can laugh at them for that. But only once they're well again, of course.

Insulting people on a arty wank music website :P

I had this funny idea about going out to see some live music....

I was going to go out to see some bands this weekend, but alas my car failed its warrant for the second time -more new problems after just fixing the last lot. And with the gigs I want to see both nights being in Lyttleton having no car makes life difficult to go to them.

I wish I knew about how cars actually work so i could fix all these damn problems.

I've come to the conclusion that learning to fix your car yourself is not a great way to go. There are too many little tricks that mechanics know, and quite a few of them are car specific. Apart from doing oil changes, there's not too much I'd bother to attempt again myself. And especially if you end up buying a newer car eventually (say post 1990), there end up being too many electronics and very little room to work in the engine bay. So most of the things I used to know don't apply to my new car.

One time, I was replacing the rear brake shoes in my car. I'd photocopied the instructions from the public library, and it was like "remove retractor spring (15)". Seemed easy enough, but it honestly took me about 20 minutes to get it off, and about the same to get it back on. I'm sure there is some smart way, but even with step-by-step instructions it wasn't clear. I had to curl up in the wheel well to get enough brace to stretch the spring. I had the meanest bruises for the next week.
Or the other time I was replacing the front brake shoes on the previous car. I'd successfully removed one of the worn ones, so decided to remove the other worn one. Except, as a mechanic later told me, you should only ever remove one at a time, otherwise the hydraulic ram thing comes out of its cylinder, and you get brake fluid everywhere. I then had to do a full dismantle to get the ram thing back in, had to borrow specialist tools from the garage, and then bleed the brake lines, which wasn't too fun either. Plus mechanics can buy most parts cheaper than you can anyway. So if it you're paying $40 more for the widget, that's maybe half an hour of mechanic's labour.

I'm rambling now, but basically, it's much easier to leave it to the experts.

hmm, yeah you're probably right. But it would still be nice to not have to stare blankly at mechanics and WOF people when they try to tell you what's wrong with your car.

My weekend pretty much feels over though I'm still feeling various effects.

ummmmmmm, so I saw a couple of bands featuring people I work with which was pretty funky and I'm contemplating giving my dog a bath and clipping her claws. This will result in a lot of resentment (from both parties) and I'll probably have to take my socks off...

but a springtime fresh dog is something that we rarely get... uhhh..

Oh man, I just don't know what to do with myself.
