I don't know about you guys, but Gnarls Barkley's single 'Crazy' is damn catchy... their debut 'St Elsewhere' isn't out for a few days, but today I heard a preview of the whole album broadcast on Triple J over here (Perth) and there's no driftwood on it at all- every track has something that hooks you, particularly the brilliant layered vocals in 'Transformer'... looking forward to forking over a few pesos for my own copy once it's released. Slash rant.
What else is pricking your ears up, NZM?

Hey foetus, how's Perth mate ? I know you'll not be there, but my mate's playing a few gigs in Perth sometime between June 16th and 28th. If the people your staying with are gig going people he's worth checking out. His name's Ben Mitchell, his myspace address is below. He's a good all rounder with his music, his acoustic stuffs great and his band stuffs better. Well worth checking out. Feel alittle guilty now .. he's not Kiwi so not exactly kiwi music and worse than that ... He's an Aussie !!!! :-) Hope all's well mate and the trips been a good one so far.

I love the Gnarls Berkley track. If you like that you should check out some other DangerMouse stuff - his album with Jemini has some good stuff but is patchy - although "The Only One" is a great track. Also "The Mouse and the Mask" with MF Doom is brill.
Or if you find Dangermouse's ...
Or if you find Dangermouse's production utterly boring and pedestrian, you could try going the other way and checking out some of Cee-Lo's other material. The old Goodie Mob releases he mainly raps, although they still show a bit of his gospel roots, but his solo album from a couple of years back was pretty ... insane. I don't know if I really liked it, it was a bit too weird. Still, much more inventive / interesting producers and collaborators, way more fun and energy, IMO.

Desperately trying not to listen to any new music at the moment - I get a bit wary of my compulsion to always hear new things - but am really looking forward to the second Junior Boys album, due around August.

I actually already have everything I've wanted to hear. Oh well, perhaps I could get on to some 80's tin foil metal like Hysteria - Deff Leopard , or some Whitesnake, Saxon. Perhaps no though.
