Do we want to talk about TV?

There's thousands who do it on TWOP but they have their programmes on a very different schedule from us, so I'm always out of step there. I want to talk about Gray's Anatomy, I'll start two seperate comments.

Forums: The Bar,

First, Alex and Izzie. They nearly got it together but he can't perferom, yet he can with his ex. Washe starting to say that he's so into Izzie, that he might actually love her, that that tenderness gets in the way of being able to get it up? There was certainly an interesting look he gave her as he was saying this.

Then there's George. I like George, he's solid, an extremely high flyer when you look at his family background, a good guy. He went off at Meredith for going for all the one night stands, told her she deserved better, she was better than that. Of course, George wants Meredith, so he'd have said it anyway, but he was genuine and it made its impact. Question is: is Meredith good enough for George? Apart from perrenially being in love with Derek, is there anything at all to Meredith? When the show started, there were hopes that she might be the Dr Green of this show, especially as her name is in the title. But the other characters have come forward, and she's looking outclassed and average.

Disclaimer: I've only watched about 2 hours worth of this show, but I usually follow programmes through the ads anyway... also, SPOILER ALERT

Meredith seems like a plot device to act as the 'centre pin' that everything else spins around. Sort of an outdated way of helping viewers make sense of the 'unlikely'(?) goings-on within the narrative. I reckon it's a pretty lazy way to set up a main character - these days we are used to and can handle shows with unorthodox main characters.

While we're here, myshkin, maybe you can help me make sense of one (partial) episode that I saw. I'll pick my words carefully as my friends have informed me in no uncertain terms that Grey's inspires fanaticism. The episode with the bomb - what the HELL was going on? So Grey and that bomb squad guy at least had some form of relationship, however newly-formed. He gets the bomb out of the patient, gets blown to shit as she watches. She can't even shower herself to get the pieces of brain off, yet somehow - and this is what confuses me - later on that night, her married man comes around and all she says to him is "I can't remember the last time we kissed."

No explanation. No other, you know, minor dialogue about how disturbed she is after seeing another human being splattered around and on her. Can you explain?

Hmm - unless I've missed a show and they're already recycling storylines, this is a story yet to show in New Zealand - I took a sneak peak at TWOP and it is about 7 or 8 episodes to go until a fellow comes into hospital with a live bazzoka shell in his chest. But somehow the lack of talking about stuff that happened during the day doesn't surprise me - it tends to take a while for these two to do that, although they eventually do.

Oooh -and I see Christina Ricca makes an appearance - which is funny, because it was just yesterday I was wondering what she's doing these days.

Ah shit, of course. Sorry. Lucky I put spoiler alert... err hur hur... eep.

But yeah, have a watch of that episode and see if the last 15 minutes make any sense from a Meredith 'character-realism' perspective.

i watched it last night for the first time (procrastination while studying)..

seems very soapy for a medical drama .. . kind of like scrubs without the jokes.. .

I've watched some of the episodes this series and I liked it well enough, but a) though that pole episode made me cry, it was totally a ripoff of the large concrete block episode from the first series of 3rd Watch, and b) John Safran's Musical Jamboree is back on C4 now, so that must take priority.

It's not too bad. However, I'm hanging out for the second series of Green Wing. Now that's my type of medical show!!

Never watched Greys Anatomy. I'm with limegreen on this one. When's Green Wing coming back????

Oh, and HELL YES we want to talk about TV.

Like The Gilmore Girls - is it killing everyone else to have Lorelei and Rory not talking?

It would be fantastic if they were talking again. Their fight has cast a shadow over the whole show, its just not the gilmore girls anymore - it is more like gilmore girl and gilmore girl and grandma gilmore.

Hey do you think the grandma should included as a 'gilmour girl'? I'm not sure, I guess she is.

The grandmother is totally a Gilmore girl, especially now with the whole Lorelei/Rory fight echoing that of Emily/Lorelei from the olden days.

I'm so conflicted because I love that Lorelei is finally together with Luke, but how could she not have told Rory? I mean, what the fuck? That is so so wrong.

I love that the grandfather was the head vampire in The Lost Boys - ever since I realised that it's given me an extra special thrill.

I know - when Luke told Rory that he and Lorelai were engaged, I could so feel the hurt that Rory did so well to button up - like her grandmother. Particularly as Rory had made the first move, to go over to Lukes and get things starting again - after she found herself bored in her digs, I just knew we'd see her next in Stars Hollow. And its hurting Lorela, and she's finally making a move as well.

But we do know they'll be talking again, and pretty soon. There is that consolation. Plus, it was funny to see Grandma telling Rory how to behave with her fellow prisoners, and then to see Rory of all people being told her "fight face" was trouble.

//I love that the grandfather was the head vampire in The Lost Boys

I just learnt the other day that she was also the mother in Dirty Dancing.

// just learnt the other day that she was also the mother in Dirty Dancing.

They had some meta time in the first season with Lorelei going "How can you not have seen that movie Mom? It's brilliant!" about it.

...

Gilmore girls - They speak WAYYYYYYYY to fast for it to be realistic.

Sure the mum is a milf but god damm you have to be on speed to be able to keep up with their conversations.

//I love that the grandfather was the head vampire in The Lost Boys
//I just learnt the other day that she was also the mother in Dirty Dancing.

emily gimore (kelly bishop) was also in the howard stern film.

They speak too fast? I've never found it too be a problem, and find it to be consistent with my own experiences of speaking with people, particularly those who also watch Gilmore Girls.

//They speak too fast? I've never found it too be a problem

It took my sister a little while to warm to it, and there was a lot of "what did they just say?" at first, but for me, well, when I'm at my parents' house watching Shorters or the news on their DVD recorder, I play it at 1.3 times speed cos they talk too slowly otherwise...

// They speak too fast?

I have this pet theory that the average talking speed of the human population is speeding up. As the population is growing smarter from generation to generation, we're better able to comprehend even the fastest of fast talkers. Realising this, tv programmers, music makers and the ad-men are pushing more words-per-minute into their products - as they can get more of their message/lyrics/propaganda across in the same amount of time (or the same in less).

Having a quiet time at home on my own a couple of weeks ago, I managed to watch 3 b-grade sci-fi films in about 2 hours by watching the talking bits at 3x speed, and it was surprisingly easy to keep up with the dialogue. Even if it did sound a little like the Chipmunks v. Predator.

Talk to fast to be realistic? That lady talks that speed in real life, believe it.

I was blackmailed into watching this on the weekend, it's ok, not too bad, but it's such a chicks show, I feel my manhood slowly eroding as I watch it ...

when i first watched an episode of the gilmore girls, i thought exactly what dantheman thought. so i decided to watch it right from the start, episode 1. and i got used to it and it all makes sense now.

i am SOOOOOO happy that luke and lorelei are together, finally. it makes me cry with joy!

//They speak too fast?

haha yeah man the first time I watched it, I felt so drained after it ended and had to catch my breath during the commercial breaks. It is a good show though, it's kinda the new age Dawsons creek I spose...but it sure beats Home and away..as good as a show that is.

i'm glad they're playing new episodes now, re-running the old ones was good because I never saw the rory boat stealing episode, but this series is going to be very interesting.

although at our house we downloaded some episodes of the new series before they started re-runs... which makes me think we might have a gilmore girls addiction problem... we couldn't go a week without seeing an episode.

Greenwing is very funny, loved that show, i woul dbe interested to know if it was coming back also.

At the moment i watch little britain, its funny/good.

little britain is genius.

I have a squashed Trumpet hanging on the wall beside me, smashed while they did some filming for Little Britain in our main Hall .. it was sketch they filmed here about a disgruntled German triangle player in an orchestra, who smashes up his colleages instruments when they're on a break, should one of them piss him off ... a friend of mine knows them, he's also done a few cameos and the music for the show .. don't think they ever showed the sketch thou ... maybe it didn't work, I know the trumpert dosen't work that's for sure ... !!!

Bodies is a great uk medical show too, its not a comedy but it is well worth watching. Its also got the guy from the office who played neil in it, he plays a smarmy negligent sugeon.
The show is quite realistic, shows the shocking side of a hospital, what you don't see behind the scnes.

Well if we're talking TV there can't be much more appeal than James Spader AND William Shatner on the same show!!

I usually snub my nose at legal based shows but being a Spader and Shatner fan (does sound like a law firm) it hooked me... unfortunatly I miss it now that I have band practise on Tuesday nights...

[this post has been fueled by bordom from waiting for the day to end so I can go on annual leave]

d'oh - of course I'm talking about Boston Legal for anyone who didn't know...

// spader and shatner

sounds more like something you'd do during a long night of drunken debauchery.

//there can't be much more appeal than James Spader AND William Shatner on the same show!!

OH MY FUCK YES! If it weren't for Fight Club, I'd still be kicking my flatmates' arses to watch that show.

//kicking my flatmates' arses

...oh, I guess fight club means that now I can..

Anyone here a 'Lost' junky?
I love that show. I don't get it but I like it.

The way Will keeps turning up driping with water totaly freaks me out. It looks like he is covered in saliva.

I think my fravorite character is that bald guy. He is so calm and seems to believe in fate. I am sure he knows more than he is telling though perhaps it is just his acceptance of a higher purpose that makes him seem so in control.

My fravorite episode was the one where that chick kills that dude from the others. I felt like there was finaly a face to the strangness on the island and he got turned into shishkebab. Perhaps the 'others' are just surviors of other planes or ships that crashed on the island?

Its kick arse. Thank god for bittorrent.

I liked Lost when it first started, but now I kind of hope that they just don't push the button and they all blow up. It frustrates me too much. I don't like TV that makes me think, except for Veronica Mars, which I am going to start a new post about.

After last week's episode in the States? Damn. Can't wait to watch this weeks.

I hear everyone has been bitching about some Revelations episode that I must have skipped downloading or something. Oh well. It gets better.

the revelations show seemed like it would explain something new but it was just highlights from the season so far. they did manage to show pretty much back to back the woman (rose?) say her husband was in the toilet at the time of the crash then her husband strapped into a chair up in a tree.

Who watched Veronica Mars while it was on? Fuck it was AWESOME. It so shouldn't have worked, because normally I hate voiceovers, but oh my god, it was just so witty, and so tangled, and Logan Echolls was hot hot hot, and having Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rhinnes playing his moviestar parents was hilarious, and I didn't know who killed Lily Kane right until the last episode which was fantastic. I am so looking forward to the second season coming out here - or on DVD in the States so I can order it and get my fix all at once. Anyone else feel the VM love?

I am guilty of watching Veronica Mars. I am working my way through the second season now. Pretty good stuff really.

Must watch tv:

Battlestar Galactica Season 2. The last episode is tv at it's finest.

24 Season 5: Honestly you would think it would be tired by now and while they are rehashing a few concepts here and there, I would have to say this is one of the best seasons yet.

Prison Break is completely over the top but somehow still watchable. If you are expecting another Oz in terms of realistic portrayal of time in jail you will be disappointed. If you are looking for the dumbness of an action movie mixed with the plot of an action movie spread out over 20 episodes then you'll be in for a treat.

Arrested Development Season 3: Damn, damn, damn. Why did it have to go and get cancelled? The last few episodes have some absolute classic tv comedy moments. So many in-jokes.

so you can hook me up with seasons three through five right?

of twenty four

Fo' sho' brother. I have season 3 on DVD and four and five I can give you in divx format. Send me an e-mail, yo.

do i know your address?

It has been a while. I assume you have the same e-mail addy. If so, check it yo.

arrested development got cancelled/??????????

i'm just working my way through season 2's DVD and this news hurts me where my heart would be if I had one still.

Is anyone here a 'milehigh' fan?
Man i love that show!
Although its on at a crap time, 10;30 or so on friday night, but well worth a night in for.
I do hope i am not the only one watching this cause its just to good to miss.

Yeah! Finally! Twin Peaks Season 2 on DVD confirmed. Damn.
