Has anyone here moved there for the purpose of being a musician? If so, what's it like? Is the music scene much greater?
I've moved from Christchurch to Wellington, and in terms of the music scene it's not much different - just more centralised in Windy. So I wouldn't recommend moving solely for the purpose of music. Oh yeah, and I wouldn't recommend changing from Canterbury to Vic uni either, 'cos the Canterbury campus is like 100 times nicer (environment wise).

I come from Wellington. Every musician ...
I come from Wellington. Every musician from Wellington I've spoken to who's played in Auckland said they had a better time than they usually do in Wellington. Maybe not everyone, but I can't think of an example of someone who said they didn't.
Part of that may be because they're a travelling act - maybe people are more likely to turn up, etc.

yeah thats true, you just can't beat big lush green fields and trees. I often used to walk home through Canty Uni and it always smelled so nice, like flowers... Vic always smelt like an alleyway behind a fish and chip shop, or at the architecture school being confronted by the homeless people who had snuck into the building and had moved into the common room.... that place smelt like urine.

IMO Wellington is better. Auckland is better than Wellington for Welly artists because its getting out of Wellington.
