Question re: Mr. Gormsby

Hi all. I just heard the other day of this programme called Seven Periods With Mr. Gormsby. Anything with David McPhail in it has got to be good, I reasoned, so I bought the DVD of the first series.

Anyway, I'd not heard anything about the programme before, so I was just wondering whether it was popular in NZ or not.

Forums: The Bar,

It's kinda popular, the DVD sold pretty well. Considering the first series was popular in Australia more people will probably watch the second series here when it comes on soon now that it's been getting good reviews overseas.

It's very, very funny - McPhail as crusty old bugger in a sea of PC teachers.

I just asked my mum the same question, and she declared she "never misses it".

I keep sort-of up-to-date with NZ media, but I really missed any kind of info about this show. Anyway, I'm half-way through the first series, and it's hilarious.

I read something about this programe awhile ago, think it's filmed in my old school .. wainuiomata college, which sadly has closed down .. I may look into buying the CD myself as it got quiet a good review as I recall ...

just ordered it on line at an aussie dvd site .. hopefully have it in about two weeks ...

Too bad it wasn't available in NTSC; I can't watch PAL discs here, so I can only watch it on my PC and not my TV.

My favourite programme with David McPhail was McPhail and Gadsby: McPhail's impression of Rob Muldoon and Jon Gadsby's Sam Hunt were ball-bouncingly funny.

NTSC .. you in the states mate .. ???

Japan. No Mr. Gormsby on TV here, I can tell you.

ah japan, never been there, but would like to check it out one day, a few mates of mine have been over and love the place, and pop back when ever they get the chance, also there's a very attrative Japanese girl I've been hanging out with for about a year now .. just drinks and things, but she's said I should go over with her sometime ... one day maybe ..

Japan's an awesome place. If you get the chance to come here, you'll love it. It's expensive, but they say prices are around the same as the UK (you're in the UK, right?) so it probably won't be so bad for you as if you'd come straight from NZ.

BTW, the credits of Mr. Gormsby, say "Thanks to the parents, teachers and pupils of Wainuiomata High School". Same as the "Wainuiomata College" you mention?

If my info's correct, it was filmed at wainui college after it was closed down and amalgamated with parkway college .. maybe wrong .. and as for the prices in Japan .. if they're the same as London .. I may go to Thailand instead .. :-) My Japanese friend has her sister coming over to London in a few weeks, so she'll feel right at home with the price of everything I should think in that case ..
