I figure many of you have some terrific "If I knew then what I know now" knowledge to share about record labels and recording contracts. I figure some of us younger NZMers could learn a thing or two from those with a few more dents on their guitars.
How do you get them interested in the first place? When do you sign? How do you decide what label is best for your music? Advantages of indies over majors, and vice versa? How much money should you get for your advance? What percentage of your album sales should you get? One album deal or five album deal? Best entertainment lawyer in NZ?
Also, any stories along the lines of "Next thing you know, Matthew Ridge and Shelton from Blindspott walked in with half a kilo of the finest coke I have ever set eyes on" would be fantastic.
