Just heard about this, poor things! At least everyone is okay and they seem to be in alright spirits. We should band together and get some cash raised to send over to them, a few aucklanders were getting together to arrange a benefit concert. We could do the same in Welly.
I know...where to start? Get some bands together, organise venue for benefit gig? They lost pretty much everything so even some spare cash for some clothes and food would be ace... anybody have any ideas? Any bands with some free time on their hands? Jo - you should bake some cookies, your baking was ace!
probably couldn't drive anything (busy times), but could definitely lend a hand and the 'network' of HQ staff is pretty broad if you need bands, gear, contacts etc
Okay, to push this thread back up above all the other crap, I would really like to be involved in organising a fundraising gig for the band. Of course, while I've planned a lot of parties in my life, I have never ever planned a gig, so I would need some help. Here are some things that I think would be essential, please post if you can help, or if I've missed anything.
- A venue
- some bands to play the gig
- someone to do sound
- someone to do the door
- prizes donated for a raffle?
- publicity for the gig
// On another note though, They were insured and no-one was hurt.
It's such a change to hear of a band who loses equipment but a) it's not through something stupid like leaving a car full of gear parked on the street overnight where it gets broken into, and b) the band has insurance, so assumedly will be able to replace every thing they best they can.
ahh that looks quite aggressive too, sorry maybe i should have added some kinda :) :P :% :$ things on the end to show my light heartedness attitude towards your meat packs.
Group of people standing round talking politely about the musical merits of an all girl band they've just watched. One person notes how great the drummer was, another replies "yes, fantastic timing" then another goes "and shes good looking too"
Now Dragstrip do you...
a) just nod in agreement regardless
b) give an honest but fair opinion.
c) wait untill everyone else has commented and then kill them all with a shocker like - yeah i'd love to put my meat in her pack!!

there's a picture of the thing in flames on the lil chief website, very impressive but also very crappy for the band.

You'd probably be in a better position than me to round up some bands to play, but a bake-sale aspect of the gig could be a go, for sure.
Maybe the NZM crew might like to step up too, in the spirit of things?

A E Prestons, the butcher, do meat trays for $50 - sell 100 tickets at $5 each and you've just made $450. And everyone loves a meat raffle.
On another note though, They were insured and no-one was hurt.
But if you pull it off I'll play a set and buy two meat raffle tickets.
