Although I've missed whatever other comments Richardson's supposed to have made which upset his former teammates, I didnt think those questions in the transcript leading to this outburst by Fleming were unfair.
I think those questions are quite pertinent.
Unless this is some sort of set-up, which I doubt, Fleming is being a complete fuckwit with his low-blow about Richardson being the most boring batsmen to watch. Richardson did his job as a test opener pretty damn well and with an avarega of over 44 from nearly 40 tests stands up favourably next to a batsman who with all the shots in his repertiore has been a real disappointment, apart from two or three seasons of consistency. I mean, aside from McMillan, has there ever been a batsman who gets out to such lame shots so consistently as Fleming?
these are the comments immediately preceding the outburst:
Mark: "Thankyou Smithy, it is a little damp underfoot out here in the outfield, but rest assured if it clears up soon we can have a full day's play.
Stephen, I realise you're a little underdone in this test, after playing all those one dayers, but can you tell me the real excuse why the Kiwi's have failed with the bat in this game?"
Stephen: "I think failed is a strong word, we came here with a game plan but unfortunately we couldn't stick to it at times and I guess that's what cost us"
Mark: Chuckles off to the side "But I mean, it's as if our batsman have been unable to get back into the swing of test cricket. Is that a fair assumption?"
Stephen: sort of stares at Mark "I think we just have to do the basics of what we know best when it comes to batting. I think at times we have done that well and at times maybe not so well, but we certainly know we have a fight on our hands".
Mark: "And what could be the reason for the slow tempo of the innings? Is it the pitch you think? Is it playing up? Or are our batsman stuck in between the 50 over game and the longer version?"
Flem mumbles a barley audible answer and then he says "thanks mate".
Radio sport ( I emailed them with the link) and TVNZ on their website and stuff.co.nz too I think have articles have labeling this as a hoax, for the Sky show Cricket Company.
There ya go fellers, sorry but it was all crap, Flemming said so in a press conference that was shown on TV 3 News.
Rigger gave Flem the chance to have a go at him at the end of their interview, this was accidentally shown in the West Indies coverage of the test and it ended up on the internet.
Well the fact that it's true and there is a second half to the interview that shows Rigger and Flemming laughing and shaking hands afterwards prove that it's not a cover up.
Rigger asked Flemming to have a go at him. So Flemming was doing as he was requested to do so it could be taped and shown on Cricket Company ( and I think it is on tonight )
heh, i saw it last night, i personally prefered the bit where Chris Cairns said he couldn't stand rigger, and Ian Smith responds with "we'll get rid of him."
