Forums: NZ Music,

How many can you play well?

don't worry, its just more spam. . . . . poorly targeted spam at that. ..

I so wanted to be the "King Player"!

no one's stopping you ! . . . what can you play????

Would one need to be of the male persuasion to be crowned king player?
Could one, in theory, be a talentless hack, and female, and win this esteemed position?
Would it matter if, for instance, they had excruciatingly bad grammar and a poor grasp of the english language?
Would they be stripped of their title for using too many unneccesary question marks?

I can play acoustic geetar and electric geetar and possibly acoustic/electric geetar (and who the F*ck gives a shiite) and keyboard and recorder and some flute???

...I'm not bad on the skinflute

Im stunned that this topic exists .... stunned, speechless even!!!

I'm gonna start a new topic :

"How many letters of the alphabet can you use?"

I'm not a professional player just an amateur one.
After my graduation from my university last year, the first job that i engaged in was a instruments buyer,
and i started to learn the features of all the instruments. I'm so fond of music that i think doing this job is a kind of having fun.
And i've known many versatile players from US as my last company got a sales department in US, and watched them played many kinds of instruments during the International Musical Instruments Show.Almost all of them could play sax and guitar(no matter wooden guitar, electric guitar
or bass)very well and they said they also play drums, percussions as well, it's amazing. I've learn a lot from them for how to compare the quality of almost all the instruments and i have been to many manufacturers to see the whole process of doing guitars, drums and some band instruments.Although i'm not doing the job of musical instruments buyer now, but i'm still want to share with you guys of my experience.

Sorry i haven't explain it well.
Acoustic electric guitar means that an acoustic guitar with an EQ(equalizer).

Why do you list a mandolin as a guitar? it has a lot more in common with a violin (ie tuning & scale of the instrument).
Of course Mandolin is mandolin, its own instrument but still seems a little odd.

Also being a cynical fuck.... any idiot can learn a dozen instruments, ie make a noise out of them, just the other day I found myself monkeying with a cello while in the studio- learning to really play is another thing, what are you good at and what have you picked up and found you can make a noise with?

go on tmw's talk
3.Most important part for drums---Hardware
Drum's hardwares also got their own fashions.Ten lugs for snare drum, double braced and stong stand for snare stand, cymbal stand, boom stand,Hi-hat stand and throne, strong and prevailing design tom tom drum arms
4.The plywood of the wooden frame drum.Maple preferred.Generally 9 aged plywoods, help durm to get perfect resonance and vibration. But most wooden drum frames are made up of birch or some other wood, depending on their sound when you play it.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic, it's just not my style, but this thread is starting to follow a slightly 'Look what i found on the net' kinda twist.

I like music very much, and always want to learn a kind of Instruments. Actually I have great interest with drum, can you give me some tips about playing drums.

Thank you for your reply,larapumpkin
Would you mind that i can just tell you some points on how to choose high quality drums? As i do not want to be a teacher here. :)!
For all musical instruments,if you like it,you will spend time to play it on and on, no matter how hard the process will be,you will enjoy your practise.Maybe you can buy a practice pad to start your first step.
Generally speaking, famous brands always got very high reputation in musical instruments field as they are really made perfectly, such as Pearl,Yamaha,Tama, but high end for beginners, so how to pick a common snare drum or a drum set?
1.Good plating, no scratches,very smooth ---- rims,lugs,loops,metal drum frame
2.Three levers of wooden drum frame skin:PVC,Celluloid and spray-paint.Levels from low end to high.Attention, for PVC and Celluloid, they are sticky on the frame, when you feel them, they should be very smooth and no terrible glue come out.
3.....tomorrow continue.off duty now.

I have worked in the music industry for a long, long time and i feel qualified to point out a few minor things about your post, no offense intended. Granted all the brands you mention make high end drum kits, but they also make low end models. The basic Tama kits can be obtained for approx $1095NZ, which is only a few hundred more than a cheap nasty Ashton kit, which is the cheapest i've come across (Bar the Stagg kits, and we wont go near them with a long stick).

Are you talking about second hand drums kits? I wouldn't sell any customer a drum kit with scratches on it ....

//basic Tama kits can be obtained for approx $1095NZ, which is only a few hundred more than a cheap nasty Ashton kit

are you talking about the Stagestar or Swingstar?? they are worth the extra $$, I never tell anyone to buy a Ashton or similar cheapy kit. If you want to save money buy a 2nd Tama, Pearl, Yamaha etc, they will last longer than a Ashton...... in saying that, Ashton also make higher end drum kits as well, the other music shop down here has them, and they don't look to bad, too bad they're Ashton thou lol

They'd be ok for someone who doesn't hit their cymbals too hard i guess, but i've seen so many people who smash the hell outa them and bust em after a week or so.

just some tips for drum beginners to pick up their durms.

Well if you're interested in learing to play the drums, the first thing is probably just working on hand coordination and rhythms. Starting with a bongo (substitute knees here if you don't have a bongo) do the basic keeping time thing, then work up into accents (hitting a hard beat with one hand).

If you get that, then try more straight rock type beats, adding in the right foot for example.

This can obviously be done with no money down - everyone has knees and feet (sorry if i've offended any amputees here)

Then if you still like drumming, look at buying a kit....

By the way I come from Germany, and your website www.ebest24.com impressed me, because it has two language, both ENglish and German and so beautiful with unbelievable low price. Maybe I can introduce it to my friends from worldwild.

Do you have a problem with terrible glue coming out of your skinflute, DarkNick?

I prefer the term 'special goo'
I don't really find it a problem, in fact it is a distinct pleasure. Though often it is much more enjoyable to play your skinflute to delay the energence. At least that way you get to finish a song.

I hope I never experience terrible glue on my drum kit...You can love your drums, but don't Luv your drums.

I sometimes find blowing my skin flute gives me a sore neck.

Try playing someone else's, it is much easier.

Rod (to Jane): "Do you want to blow on my pipe while I'm twanging away?"

Jane: "Oh no Rod, I was blowing a lot with Roger last night. But would you

like to play with my maracas?"

Zippy: "No, let's just pluck away with our twangers."

Bungle: "Yes, it doesn't matter what size your twanger is."

Zippy: "I've got a big red one."

George: "I've only got a tiny twanger. But it works well and I like to play with it."

PREFER FENDER ST
CHEERS

Zildjian ZXT Titanium cybals are actually a pretty good deal. Ive had my set for 1 and a half years now, they still sound mint. Originally they were cutting a bit too much, but I havent cleaned them in a while, and theyve got this real dark feel to them now. It's great.
No problems at all - If youre looking for entry level cymbals... that are actually pretty fucking good for what you pay. I reckon, look no further. Theyre way better than Paiste 302s and 502s anyway.

As for drums - everyone harps on about shells. I've played on lots of different shells now. To me, theres not a lot of difference between most. Put decent skins on each side of a drum, tune it properly, and itll sound reasonable. I use Evans G2 heads.

If you want recording/studio level gear, then prepare to fork out like anything though. That shit doesnt come cheap.

Enjoy what you do most of all - even if your drums are crap - you can still have plenty of fun.
