We've got alot of amazing musical talent in this lil ol' country of ours... but lets face it, we really are small, and no matter how much we may appreciate that talent, eventually they are going to want to branch out into the Big World... Just like Steriogram recently did.
I remember watching a doco on Anika Moa a while ago, tracking her venture over to the States.... and remember watching her crumble under the hype of the american music industry. So what bands do you think will make it big overseas this year? Predictions please!

Few have the overseas marketing potential... For example, Golden Horse. No matter how fantastic they are, and always will be, a pure Kiwi group.

it's kinda been proven that bands that make it big overseas are bands that don't do so well here.
most popular kiwi bands are only big overseas within ex-pat communities.
and why don't they do very well in the general markets?
cos they already sound like something...
it's the very unique who will be recognised - not the copycats.

ummm, i think not eh.
some do moderately well, and shock horror, even make a living. but that only lasts a year or two before they fade back into obscurity
then again there are bands like the ...
then again there are bands like the Chills and the Clean (Bats, etc) who tour many dates through the college circuit of the US and across Europe every few years, for the last ... almost 20 years?
in monetary terms they are more popular over there though, than they are here. possibly anomalies to what usually happens. i don't think the trend is set in stone though, either way (popular here, ignored there, and vice versa). and then there is the Finn-factor.
