alright, i just didn't want to do it before 'cos i figured people would be sick of hearing about my band! love to hear about yours though
i like to think that the name Jesus Crux is symbolic, like being part of the cross for Jesus, a way of saying i support Jesus, but also at the same time He carries us as a burden too but He does it willingly and happily
what are your songs about? i'd like to head into a Christian direction with songs about encouraging people to appreciate God more and appreciate each other more, but at the moment most of my songs are about people moving away and moving on and stuff
how did the band start? played solo through most of College and first years of uni, met my drummer through my old bass player who i kicked out of the band, feel bad about it but he wasn't very competent and got really offended when i suggested he took some lessons. i just don't think people should be in bands until they're a bit more ready with their instruments
what's your coolest band story? if anyone's been to Canterbury University it's a really beautiful place and the Law School has this cool 5 story stairway which has such a lovely view which i'd recommend to everyone, when me and my band first met we went up there with an acoustic guitar and played songs and enjoyed the scenery, good memory

/what's the story behind your band name?
MK1 of the band a couple of weeks out from the first gig. Johnny who is now in Cerveza wants to call the band 'Without Consent' Angel who is also now in Cerveza hates that, I don't like it either but don't terribly dislike it. Last ditch effort we name ourselves after one of our own songs, Temple of Ishtar- which was kind of like Coleridge meets Led Zeppelin lyrically but without the opium fuelled coolness of Coleridge. Still it was better than calling ourselves Satellite, well it seemed it at the time.
what are your songs about?
Love, horror stories, television evangelists, death, revenge, escape, Alizon Devize and the other witches of Pendle Hill, war, dreams, politics and despots, more love, isolation, more revenge, pointless playing with words and how tv is used to put a slant on things ie to allow Bush back into office.... more or less alphabetically... see our lyrics page on the dot co dot nz.
how did the band start?
MK1, a series of T&E ads while caught up doing music for Titirangi drama. Mk2 on the heels of MK1, Warren knew Jordan and we found Dawn through the net... I think??. MK3 current lineup fell into place Dave via net T & E, Mel was seeing a friend and looking for a band, Andrew via muzic dot net ad, Foal30 spotted it and emailed me. Greg the prior bassist was a friend of a guy I was working with and was in to fill in only as he was playing with another band- he stayed for 2 years though.
what's your coolest band story?
Dunno. Played the 45s Motorcycle club headquarters once which was cool, but you kinda had to be there... New Years eve 01, Aotea square, main stage, thousands of people was very cool. Playing a gig to a barman and Graham Brazier was kinda fun but not cool, it was a stormy night and the people at the temple before us (a mitre 10 management midwinter christmas party) got onto a party bus and left, which was far from cool... Lots of incidents... I remember a time when Warren put a drunk through a table at Notes after he got out of hand, looked cool- wasn't really he nearly killed him. ... I don't know.. Maybe Aotea Square

MK as in 'mark', version of the band. Like you can get a mk3 or mk4 cortina...
Ishtar 1 played their first gig on the anniversary of Elvis' death 16 Aug 00. We ran on for around a year and a half when Johnny and Angel quit- personality conflicts mostly with the bassist though i think it had something to do with buying a yacht and one other thing. Johnny and Angel formed Angelsound in 03 which is now called Cerveza.
we were down for about 3 months and came back in 02 with Jordan from the WBC on drums and a singer by the name of Dawn Pilcher. a couple of months in it was obvious Warren really wanted to just roadie for other people. Jordan was fun to jam with but we really weren't his thing. Dawn had the idea the thing to do would be to write pop songs. I disagreed. At the time I wanted to go heavy, a lot heavier than we are now. When Warren quit I folded the band.
MK3 is the band from about april 03 though in that time we've gone through a couple of bassists and a singer.
To clarify cool band story... Graham ...
To clarify cool band story... Graham Brazier was cool, we had a hardcase dialogue going on between songs. Empty bar wasn't. When I was doing the drama muso thing (and a little bit of acting, there is a pic of me playing the cream faced loon in MacBeth @ lopdell house somewhere) one of the players claimed to have put on a show of Beckett's Waiting for Godot to a shadowy couple. At half time they got together with the stage manager and said "we'd better work harder, the miserable bastards didn't even applaud" apparently they then went on to put on the show of their lives only to find when the lights went up they'd been performing to a couple of coats propped up the back. It seems a bullshit story every old actor seems to have in reserve but can't help thinking something like that must have happened to someone sometime.
