Forums: The Bar,

its not that long ago they all got substantial payrises. But kudos to her, everyone would usually enjoy a payrise, I know if an extra 30k was waved in my face I would be happy. mind you its not as if she wasn't well paid to start with.

the kudo is the least of her concerns with an extra wad of cash to flap around in.
is she ostensibly doing anything extra to warrent a pay increase
did the popularity of labour not decline in the recent election
while CYFS strike; some earning as little as 10.50 an hour for taking care of real new zealand problems/ people/ children,
the prime minister's ego just got 30k fatter.
new zealand is not a rich country
this is unnecessary
but it clearly highlights her priorities as a so called leader
nice one helen you selfish pig

actually I recall seeing some statistics last payrise that shown she is actually paid comparatively well when compared to her foreign counterparts (mind you, many of them are intertwind into huge businesses that grow there true fortunes, but thats beside the point).

In my personal opinion you are right, she does not have appeared to have done anything to warrant a pay increase of such dramatic nature. But none the less, I can get bitter about it or just accept that these things happen and good luck and fortune to those who are so lucky. Who decides whether parliament should have pay increases anyway, surely not helen herself, not that I suspect she would be adverse to the idea.

When there are CEOs in this country on million dollar salaries I don't see an issue with it.
There is a widening gap between rich and poor in the country and that does need looking at but that is another issue.
Personally you couldn't pay me enough to be prime minister.

// did the popularity of labour not decline in the recent election

Yes, that's true, it did not decline.

but major corporations and such are driven by massive profit as pretty much there purpose in most cases and the highly appointed persons there are I guess rewarded as such (the debate over lowly paid workers in the same corporations is a different issue). Prime minister, while I share your view of not wanting to touch the job with a really long pole, its still a puplic elected duty that one volunteers to do and its one that should strive for betterment of the country not of ones wallet. Mind you they should still be paid well, and they are already.

but meh, I'm just arguing for arguments sake, like I said earlier good luck to her.

NZ is a rich country.
dont be an ignorant fool.

Oops, being a great moderator, I just accidentally deleted a post of hollis's for no reason. If you read this hollis, there was nothing wrong with it.

in answer to that post hollis
new zealand rates at 59 on the gdp rich list
somewhere between sri lanka and khazikstan
sure that's a long way ahead of go getters like the isle of man
but when you're competing with countries like sudan you can't really be considered an international big hitter.
full credit for parochially championing new zealand as a rich country,
but in the big picture looking at the stats
nz seems like just another economic also ran

obviously this is not the per capita gdp
because if it were, we'd be coming in at no. 16
high number that.
we're almost in the race
16th richest country in the world per capita...
seems strange that public servants like the CYFS workers were striking over christmas over their measely 10.50 an hour, you should tell them they're fucking rich
and chastise them for their ignorance
excuse my ignorance also

what can this much money do to a person?
it makes them use wods like 'should' in relation to other peoples' lives

//Helen Clark believes people should get "high" on life, not drugs or party pills.

without taking into account we can't afford a day off work to walk the hump track and these pills, smoke and hardish liquor are about as high as we can will our lives to get.
someone get this woman some kids and a functional family

I agree.

Its hard to say just how infuryating it is to get the messages of direction from our self styled betters and leaders.
