Velvet Tiger Presents
for the month of December…
Hold onto your hats, because this December, Velvet Tiger present – to you, the discerning public – three blisteringly-hot international rock’n’roll shows, to kick-start what will undoubtedly be a musical summer to remember. And if that sounds like a cheesy line of huckster-ish salesmanship, just consider for a moment what will be coming at you:
THE BUFF MEDWAYS.
THE KILLS.
GUITAR WOLF.
See? We’re not trying to trick you into anything – this is really going to be a lot of fun.
THE BUFF MEDWAYS are the fireball maximum r’n’b trio led by celebrated English eccentric Billy Childish: painter, poet, writer, and maven of underground rock’n’roll, cited by era-spanning luminaries like Cobain, Mudhoney and Jack White as one of the most inspiring artists in music. Recently, when pressed by an inquiring journalist as to precisely what kind of music The Buff Medways play, Mr. Childish attempted to sum it up in words we could all understand:: “punk rock rhythm’n’blues”; “mod music played in a dustbin”; “a cross between the 1976 Clash and the 1965 Who"; with further inspiration from Hendrix “before he started wearing Moccasins." With a firm sonic aesthetic as to how their music is presented, The Buff Medways play through vintage equipment, do not use modern PA systems, and have no offstage mixing. Pure, wild excitement!
THE KILLS – the trans-Atlantic duo made up of VV and Hotel -- have mounted a blitzkrieg campaign on the complacent hipster world since their early-century inception, and this year’s No Wow delivered their definitive blow thus far, even allowing them to bust into the UK charts with ‘The Good Ones’. The Kills’ simple set-up of voice, guitar and drum machine doesn’t even hint at the scope of their punked-out, blues-up, dagger-blow Amerikana – sinister and thrilling, but please don’t talk about any “dark underbellies”…OK? Think this is all hyperbole? Be sure to check out debut album Keep On Your Mean Side, and then make your decision.
Prepare to welcome back -- unleashed from the East --the mighty GUITAR WOLF, Japan’s defenders of the faith and the undisputed Invader Aces in the pack. No amount of exaggeration is possible when describing Guitar Wolf’s live storm: sweat, thunder, feedback, shock, awe, catharsis, fun, fury, energy joe!, earthquakes…experience the might of the Jet Generation first-hand!
For those wanting to recap, catch up, or create an instant Guitar Wolf collection of essentials, Golden Black is the new compilation of some of the finest moments in Guitar Wolf history. But be warned – this will not prepare you for the crazy rock’n’roll onslaught of their unbeatable live performance, now with new bassist UG (You-Gee).
So there you are – three cracking shows to help you say goodbye to 2005. Don’t say we never do anything for you.
