Virtual Tattoo

What tattoo will you get next (hypothetically, when you get around to it, or otherwise)? Where and by whom?

Forums: The Bar,

If I was going to get a tattoo, I'd probably get it done by Roger on Cuba St, since both my sisters got theirs there, so it's a family tradition. And I'd get words to remind myself of just how fucking choice I actually am.

But I'm not going to get a tattoo, cos it would stretch and grow and sag no matter where I put it, basically.

//cos it would stretch and grow and sag no matter where I put it, basically.

Yeah, that's probably the one thing putting me off.

If I was going to get a tattoo, I'd probably get WORLD printed across the back of my neck.

I am quite in love with the idea of a Suthin' Cross

yeah, go on do it !!

i like the logo of the cross (the bar). it looks too fancy in there for me now.

I tried to convince a boy to get the southern cross but he wouldn't have a bar of it. selfish bastard,

I'm not actually planning on getting one, but if I was, something like this would be my choice, somewhat scaled so that it would be covered if I was wearing shorts, making it an essentially private thing.

Just a personal thing, but to me I think they work best when they relate to the form of the body. I'm not a fan designs that work in isolation rather than in harmony.

So true, I hate when tattoos look like stick-ons. There are some awesome pics but they've just been splodged on an arm or something and they end up looking like a big sore. Somehow they need context.

I'd like to discourage everyone from getting random shin tattoos, cos holy crap they look tacky.

The ring my dad gave to me when I graduated varsity (given to him by his dad when he got his degree) has this great Celtic (but a whisker away from being Maori) pattern on it.

I reckon I'd get that exact pattern as an armband.

Not that I ever would.

I alway though if I was ever going to get boby art it would be on my feet. Like in the photo but different.

A silver fern or the shape of NZ or even a Kiwi on my chest over my heart with "Kiwi Made" above it and " 5/6/1985" below it

dan I thought we'd been through this - you should get a devilwoman on your forehead

nah I've got it dan - A kiwi, squating over top a british bulldog & laying a turd on its head - on your forehead, now that would be AWESOME

haha ok you get one first then Ill get one k?

I've had my tat for going on 23 years, had before I even joined the Navy .. never regretted it. It's a common old panther, Black, not faded to green yet, but it did have red eyes and red claw marks up the arm which have now faded away .. My mother paid for it when she saw my Brother go down the home made indian ink road .. think she headed me off at the pass. I think from memory it was done in Cuba street, the bloke just got out a pen, drew it free hand I looked down .. it's on my right upper arm .. said looks okay and away he went, it's part of me now, as I said never regretted it. I have been tempted to get another one or add to this one but never got around to it. I've seen some great tats in the Navy, but one of the worst was one a guy here at work got .. he's gone now .. but he had in huge, and I mean huge letters across his back the word HOPE .. just plane and in black .. very bland and ugly .. still his choice .. a nice one was a girl I knew in the Navy, she had a small butterfly on her left shoulder .. beautiful ..

The panther looks wicked, dude. It probably depends on the tattooist, but I'd expect that some of the coolest designs are the ones where you let a talented skin artist express themselves freestyle, no?

yeah, maybe mate, but you'd have to have confidence in him and trust his judgement, unless you give him guidance as to what you want and how it should look .. which is what I guess you mean ?? .. your the one who has to live with it. A few of us are going for a few drinks on Thursday evening if your up for it Foetus ... ?? sorry dust it's not a highjack of the thread ...

phones still down in London?

Yeah ... where would we be without the internet .. London to NZ to London .. phones are overrated ..

rope, do you still check your email?

I soooo want a tattoo, but I've struggled to come up with/find a design that I think will mean as much to me now as it will when I'm 65.

Maybe I'm approaching this entirely the wrong way, making too much of the choice... why not just get one that looks good?

I quite liked Clooney's tattoo in From Dusk Till Dawn- a design that creeps out from your collar just a little, but is actually much bigger underneath.

I always said if I ever got fed up with my tat, I'd just remind myself that it's something I wanted, and not something I had no control over .. there are people out there with aspects of their body they've had no control over .. and I don't mean .. oh my boobs are too small, my nose is too big .. real physical problems .. no limbs, birth marks etc ... I chose the mark I wanted on my body .. I live with it. I've had it so long I forget I have it, even though it's quiet big .. if you don't want to be reminded of it, get it somewhere either you can't see it or it's covered 90% of the time ...

/get it somewhere either you can't see it or it's covered 90% of the time ...

...Justin Hawkins has the right idea.

ooohhh .. umm ... no ... think not ..

Trivia: In Japan, most gyms will bar you from joining, and and most hot springs will bar you from entering if you have a tattoo.

hmm, I've considered that if I ever record music, well properly, like an EP or Album, I'd like to take my favourite bass line on it or the first recorded and tattoo it as an arm band in bassclef form. its kind of tacky to some, but it beats getting some asian pattern as a band that I don't understand or have a connection to.
