BDO Final Update

Ok, if anyone else has seen the final list of the acts playing at BDO is it possible to tell who's actually headlining or are we assuming it's Mudvayne?

Ooh, exciting.

//who's actually headlining or are we assuming it's Mudvayne?

I would assume Iggy and the Stooges are a bigger name act.

Iggy would definitely be the headlining act, I would say anyways.

Line up is looking pretty good though.

There is one more announcement isn't there?

Cancel my last question...

THE worst announcement ever.....go iggy though!

I f'n rekcon x 2

I heard there is still one more announcement in December. The topic name is therefore misleading.

// I heard there is still one more announcement in December.

jess, can you confirm one way or the other?

From what I heard, there were only two announcements in Aust, but I *think* NZ was possibly getting a third. I assume that means no more international acts though.

But I'm not jess, so don't quote me.

Yes, there is one more announcement in early December.

"so we’ve decided to treat you to all the final BIG DAY OUT additions in one mega-supasize-announcement"

Doesn't that mean they have combined the two announcements...in to one mega-supasize announcement?

This being the reason why I said " cancel my last question" regarding the next announcement in one of my posts above

I'm hearing/hoping it may be LCD Soundsystem?

//Doesn't that mean they have combined the two announcements...in to one mega-supasize announcement?

...for Australia, because the Sydney one sold out already.

Here's the thing - the press release that Eddie cutnpasted above is an Australian press release - I guess he got it from the BDO website - and in Australia there are only 2 announcements this year. However for the Auckland event the three-announcement format remains, and there will be one further announcement, in early December.

// who's actually headlining or are we assuming it's Mudvayne?

The White Stripes, of course.

// who's actually headlining or are we assuming it's Mudvayne?

//The White Stripes, of course

Really?? out of that line up I would have choosen The Stooges

Yeah, I see what you're saying... head's right though, it's the White Stripes :) and I CAN'T WAIT!!

The White Stripes will be incredibly good.

However Mars Volta will be better than Led Zeppelin this time around (oh wait for the Jan 06 links back to this overstatement!). Do not miss Mars Volta especially if it's a green stage for them.

If they are on when there is another decent band on I will be taking issue.

Then you gots Iggy, Soulwax, Murphy, 'had, etc etc.

I know it doesn't sound like perfect line up on the surface but it will serve thee well I believe.

//who's actually headlining or are we assuming it's Mudvayne?

Mud who?

When you assume things, you make an ass out of you.

yahoo, LCD soundsystem. theres a reason to go. can't wait to see James Murphy's fat ass shakin on stage. Guessin he won't bring the band though which sucks eggs.

yeah nah on second thoughts its still a really lame line up. James Murphy's only djing, M.I.A. woulda been good to see even if she's not my cuppa t. wheres the arcade fire, bloc party, rakes, art brut- anything new with some energy thats not nu metal? don't they realise its had its day? god i must be getting old. When i realise that the biggest festival is in fact aimed at 15 yr olds. Least we get some hip-hop where the ockers don't. Common + Edan be good i reckon.

The Go Team are energetic, and very fresh.

o yeah, forgot about them. they'll be good i think. Have only really heard them in the background and i've got the australian tour ep but i don't know if thats representative really... ?

// Common + Edan be good i reckon.

Damn straight. Really keen to see them.

i wonder why M.I.A is only playing australia ....

awh seriously! man I would love to see her.

I sure hope the organisers give a little more consideration to the scheduling this time - last year was a nightmare of heartbreaking clashes interspersed with endless deadzones.

I hope mudvayne are headlining - but that won't be the case. Seems strange though, they don't really fit in with any other bands on the bill - Why does the BDO keep trying to please veryonelike this?

... I think it is obvious why they try to please everyone... isn't it?

They always have.

Slipknot didn't really fit in either, neither did the muderdolls a few years back.

// muderdolls a few years back. >>

>> SUCKED! man... they really suck. I saw 'em veeery breifly at the Gold Coast BDO. They only had about 20 teenie-boppers watching them,....ummm 2002?... 70 thousand people there, it was MAD...and at least 40 degrees during the day... and no free water.....that suuuuccckkeed.

I actually enjoyed Murderdolls band in 2003, I was just laughing my ass off the whole time......

// I actually enjoyed Murderdolls band in 2003

yeah same ..heh, I mean they were no Pearl Jam or anything but they were still good fun. lots of energy and an understandable distaste for the sun.

*extended grumble about second announcement* ..Sonic Youth, Pixies, Patti Smith ..where are you! seriously..how fuckin' cool would that lineup be... ; /)!

they are nice guys too. they slayed the 'green stage' in melbourne with an just simply fun set. at the melbourne band/hotel party they were the rank outsiders huddled in the corner of the hotel bar. teina ended up "crossing the divide" and intoducing them to QOTSA, Sparta and Deftones lads. An hour later we were all pissed and the Murderdolls were the nicest guys and had lotsa new friends. Good times.

... I want to have been at that party.

shit. me too, please.

Hmmmm doesn't look like it be worth coming up for, since theres only 3 'international' bands I would be interested in seeing - Stooges, Mars Volta & Sleater-Kinney
Oh well, I couldn't really afford it anyway

AFI will be fucken good

nah, not really into that punk sorta thing, but in saying that I haven't really heard that much of them

*Very very very disappointed and may go and sit in the corner and cry*

SUCKY ANNOUNCEMENT. Not a single band that I was hoping for.

Yay Gestalt Switch *tears of joy*

Common, brilliant - BLOODY BRILLIANT! headline act, live performance wize. yay for shapeshifter too, no others worth mentioning. poor.

Its not the best lineup but The White Stripes and Kings of Leon and Mars Volta will be awesome live
Iggy is the old campaigner worth seeing live

Mudvayne were awesome last time at BDO - even if u don't like heavy stuff worth a look
Wolfmother will be wicked and the Living End always crank

Shihad a NZ heroes - they destroyed Wellington earlier in the year
I would pay $110 to see just The Kings of Leon and The White Stripes

Not the best but still good 12 bands I wanna see - Chur

i'm pretty much just going for the first announcement.
the third announcement better be good.

yawn.

hahahahahaaaahahaha.... i dont believe this... this announcement is too crap to contemplate..... all i can do is laugh...... I wouldn't pay $50 for this SHIT..... the following is from the website:

2nd Announcement!!!

15-11-05

BIG DAY OUT ANNOUNCES FINAL ADDITIONS FOR A SUPER-SIZED,
STAR-SPANGLED SUMMER FESTIVAL

Star spangled lol... hahahaha... hold on let me say that one more time.... STAR SPANGLED... who the fuck took over what used to be the best music event we ever get to see... I could bend over... and take a shit right here right now... that would contain more ' stars" then this years big day out... They go from the last couple of years to this..... 2 years ago Metallica... the strokes.. the darkness.... muse.....= the lost prophets... the black eyed peas.... ect... then this....??? A shitty ass duo that probabaly never got around to getting a bassist because they sounded too shit to want to play for them .. sure.. they are a half decent act in terms of their name and status but fuck this just isn't good enough... who the fuck ??? i would barely want to see any of these bands... and this is the bigday out... what happened to all the fucking diversity... what a joke is all i can say... I hope no one goes even tho i know people will go just for the fuck of it... that way at least if no one goes and tickets dont sell as well.. the organisers know that they cant ever try and fuck us over again... if they can sell the tickets without having to pay for more bands... why pay for more bands... i dont even think this festival would have costed them half as much as it did 2 years ago.. metallica would have probabably charged more then this years whole festival combined... so if they can spend up half as much as the last few years...( and judging by the lineup... i think its pretty fucking fair to say that they will pocket a few more pennies) AND might i add increase the fucking price of the tickets... why do you think they should do it again next year....where is my money going
out of every ticket id estimate

$20 - venue
$3 pa
$3 whitestripes
25c to pay for the beer in which to pay all the highschool garagebands that are now going to peform on the main stage

that leaves the organisers with.... MORE FUCKING MONEY THEN I SHOULD EVEN BOTHER COUNTING WHILST POINTING A BIG FUCKING FINGER RIGHT IN YOUR FACE

nah just joking i love this years bigday out its going to be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chow

there you have it, the shittest BDO yet... first one I'll miss in ages.. damn.. look forward to it too... oh well

Was tossing between BDO and Parachute - all's said and done, BDO is a LOT better!

Of course, BDO always had strong bands. Parachute started off well by bringing in strong bands... now for the past few years (including the upcoming 2006 festival), it's all same, old, boring bands. Bands are crucial and if a festival doesn't innovate in that area, then watch the numbers dip... at least we've got some good concerts and festivals coming such as Big Day Out, and concerts by Coldplay and U2...! Now THAT'S money worth spending on!
