Tired of politics/religion/philosophy threads, so- men's cologne.
I've never really understood it very well. The subtle notes of Lynx roll-on used to be the beginning and end of it for me. But I've become more curious lately- it's actually quite a complicated thing, eh- the way skin types react with certain fragrances. A scent will smell like cat wee on one man, and dog wee on another...
I got this 5 pack of CK mini's at duty free. Fave so far is called 'Escape', very nice.
What's your fave? Is there any method to finding the right kind of fragrance, or do you just keep going untill you get it right? A splash on the face after a shave, or all over? Can too much of a good thing be a bad thing?

`Mania'. Pretty self-explanatory really.
Well ok, apart from the name, I'd been trying a couple at each airport as I was travelling round the world, and eventually settled on that one by the time I was just about back. I don't shave, per se, so it's a post shower, spray, delay, and walk away.

Karl lagerfeld 1978 .. I've liked this for a good few years now .. but hadn't brought any for about 5 years, I've been buying Body shop stuff for quite a while which I quite like .. I brought a few bottles of lagerfeld a few weeks ago and I've been using it quite abit .. but I think I've gone alittle overboard with it .. the Body shop stuff you can spray all over in the morning and it's not too strong .. the lagerfeld on the otherhand .. well I think the first week or so when I brought it, people were passing out as I walked past, I didn't quiet get the balance right between Body shop good and not too strong.. apply heaps, and the other top notch and very strong apply not so heaps ... I applied both in the same volume !! I've learnt .. ! .. foetus if you want a good website for cheap Aftershaves / perfumes etc try the link below they do shop samples etc some aren't too badly priced ... lagerfeld for instance ....

See, I used to wear Brut for a while as well, but then it went off the radar for a while- but the flat consensus is that apparently old is new again- the stuff your dad used to wear has gone from musty to lusty?

Oh totally- but when someone has found the right stuff, it doesn't seem to matter how much they use. I mean (& I hate to gross anyone out with a personal example), there's this one perfume the other half uses that is like a very powerful electromagnet. The more the better.

perfume / cologne and the like can be broken in to 5 groups, citrus, flower, wood, spice, musk these are called notes, you have top and bottom notes, top notes being the 1st smell and bottom notes being the sustained smell, and trust me you do not want to know what / where / how these smells come from.
advice, once you find a smell that you like and is liked by your beloved, work out what the key notes are, a parfumerie should be able to help you... anyway then you will know which perfumes to go for when you are out shopping.
I was aways told that a perfume that suits your body type is one that you can't smell after about 10 minutes of wearing it, if you can smell it , it means it is reacting badly with your own chemistry.
it is worth noting that 60% of men can't smell musks whereas all women can, and Rdor, most men find spice notes with an under notes of vanilla very erotic, possibly why a lot of the cheep nasty sprays are using it at the moment.
then there is Perfume, Cologne, and toilet water, these names refure to the % of smelly bits .. I have listed them in order, and cologne is diluted with alcohol and toilet water, surprise is with water

I have a okay stock of aftershave - and I never pay for any of it... My mother works as a rep for YSL so all my 'smellies' are freebe testers - having said that I have a few fragrances which I really like and stick too now. My winter fragrances tend to be more spicey and I've been using Opium for Men for ages now (sooooo much better than the original Opium). Summer is far more of a citrus feel for me, I try and keep my fragrances light and natural because (this may be too much info for some people) I sweat an awful lot in the heat. Took me a number of years to find what I liked (and which people seemed to think worked with me) and thanks to my mother I get access to all sorts of stuff to try out...
Guys should certainly not be scared to experiment and find a fragrance that works for them!

Yeah, that's the way I see it too, you need a good hearty smell for the winter, sandelwood / spice ... largefeld .. maybe .. :-) ...!! so when you get to where ever your going and take off your coat it fills the air around you with the scent .. or maybe that's just me ... !!! and a lighter one for the summer Coolwater by Davidoff was one I used one summer ...

Davidoff... my workmate mentioned Davidoff. She said I'd do better by ditching CK completely and looking for cologne from a company that just does cologne, y'know- when it's the only thing they specialise in, you'd expect the quality to be that much higher. I thought CK's stuff was supposed to be pretty good though?
I don't know, CK's stuff must be made ...
I don't know, CK's stuff must be made in the same way as everyone else's stuff , I mean I can't see it being made in some dodgey back room in the underwear factory ... So in real terms it can't be any different .. apart from scent .. than anything else .. don't see her logic in this respect really .. How's things in general anyhow mate ..??

We've got a couple of trips coming up so we're keeping an eye on the pennies, tightening the belt & all that, but otherwise fine.
RE my workmate- I dunno, maybe I overdid the cologne that day or something... she was definitely trying to talk me out of using CK again!
Today's mini is Obsession for Men, BTW. It's a little soapy for my tastes, but it got a nice reaction from Deb- which is always good.

Ha! Thanks for the offer man! We can afford our own lunch, honest! Seriously, we're actually going to be in Paris this Saturday- we scored some cheap rail tickets so we're taking the chance to go see some of the things we missed last time (Museé D'Orsay in my case)... but I don't want to bore anyone with my travel stuff. Hey which cologne makers are based in Paris? Like, apart from all of them ;-)

I'm sure you'll find you'll knock yourself out with scent in Paris it's a great city as I'm sure you know ... but don't put too much on .. it's alcohol based, and the way things are there now, you may meet an untimely end !!! .. years ago when I first arrived here I went out with a French girl for a few years .. she always smelt rather lovely, the french women have an understanding of these things I think ... enjoy your weekend and remember to keep your head down .. :-) !!

“//Okay so what do men like the smell of?? . . . Oil, Peppered steak with mushroom sauce, Av-Gas, Fried food – especially onions, 2-stroke smoke, beer, mums roast . . . so why not create a perfume for women that captures the essence of these smells, forget ‘Impulse’ this is guaranteed be irresistible to any man !!
//also we can make a mens range that smells of new shoes, chocolate, shopping malls, jonny depp, cash out of a mans wallet, flowers, bon bons etc . . . the lynx effect, forget about it . . . you'll have horny women bashing down your door
//what if there was a mens shower in a can type product that smelt of new born babies, when women smelt it would there natural maternal instincts kick in? but more importantly would they get clucky? . . . therefore not only would they like the way you smelt but would want babies . . . . aye, aye . . . . sex coming your way fast fellas :) although there could be issues that arise . . . like actual babies . . .”
I’m wasted in this trolling ninja gangsta caper, I should be using my time as an ideas man
