I saw a CD yesterday in a Melbourne shop called 'Ladyfest' which had a Coolies track on it. Seemed to be all people who'd performed at local venue Revolver. Pretty intriguing tracklisting, big range of stuff.

If the Coolies threw meat at the audience, then bathed in a bath of shit on stage, and cut their instruments up with chainsaws before playing a note, the fans would go crazy and say it was a revolutionary show. You know it's true. And that's all very well - but is the music actually any good?
No, but I regret not going tho. They're fun to watch live. Their split 7" w/ Die Die DIE should hopefully go some way to capturing their live sound. their two songs are slices of sludgy and evil sounding (deliberately) digitally distorted abrasion. the guy who recorded them made a point of recording them really fucking loud. Hopefully their attitude survives the mastering process at the vinyl plant.
In response to the guy who talked about the "horrid Scene" - hell yes. I like the idea of a community, not a scene. Communities are constructive and encourage a sense of individuality.., scenes are destructive and foster mediocrity and conformity...
I think the coolies are the only band in New Zealand totally uncompromising and generally unaffected about what ANYONE thinks of them.
They are the only band who is really creating something 100% truly interesting and honest in my opinion. If you are in a band and get offended by this comment well then you just prove my point.
