Film about Kurt Cobain "Last Days"

Forums: The Bar,

its losly about Kurt, but kinda not

It's not so much about Cobain as about a troubled young rock star who shares a penchant for bleached hair, dresses and comedy sunglasses.

Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, who in real life helped Nirvana in their early days, plays a small role in the film (something like a record company executive).

It looks like a bleak film, and will probably most appeal to people who were children when Cobain died and grew up with a notion of him as being a holy rock figure.

i hear it's a lot like 'Elephant' - if you thought that was brilliant, new, astounding and sublime, this is a very similar type of set up. just with a more seemingly-famous reference to someone celebritarian.

but ... i love Mark Kermode's film reviews on BBC Radio Five - i download them constantly because he is so spot on and incredibly funny and able to review with reasoning ... he hated Last Days ... it infuriated him - i'm not sure how he found 'elephant' - but he had a funny story - said first time he saw it he had not idea what the main character was mumbling all the time ... that really got to him (it seems like an arse and lazy way to convey depression) ...

anyway (possibly a SPOILER here, if you want to avoid elucidation of the main character's grief, and just want the film to wash over you instead) Mark Kermode goes to Cannes film festival and decides to give Last Days another go - subtitles this time, so he now is able to work out what the main character is mumbling - "iwannamakeaplateamacaroni" comes up a lot. made Mark hate the film even more.

"makeaplateamacaroni" is an all-purpose punch-line used by m' crew at the moment. mumble du jour. and you gotta stumble like a zombie while you deliver it.

It's a long, seemingly pointless rambling movie which I suppose if nothing else de-glorifies the way he died. I liked Elephant, it just seemed to have more of a point to it, o it can't be a short attention span on my behalf.
This movie had me tearing my hair out with frustration. It's a pig's ass of a movie.
