NZ bands and all ages venues

Ah yes, the old all ages venues debate.
Basically, for an upcoming article I'm writing for Tearaway magazine about youth venues, I've got a few questions for y'all.
Are there not enough decent all ages venues around the place and is that the reason why there are few all ages gigs?
Or, is it that bands don't like playing to teenage audiences?
Is there a need out there for more all ages venues, or is it pointless?

I'm after a whole heap of opinions - you can trash the idea, whatever. Anything goes. Go nuts. Yell or something.

Any... assistance is much appreciated.

If you've got any useful specifics, or you're intensely passionate about this "topic" (and perhaps wouldn't mind being interviewed), feel free to send me an email, bobsonshovel@hotmail.com

Thanks!

Forums: NZ Music,

cost is the primary thing - most established venues are usually bars, and they'd have to go to a lot of trouble getting a license that would allow underagers on to the premises, as well as hiding all the alcohol, etc. that addedd to the fact they don't underagers won't spend as much as a drinker would mean that they wouldn't bother.

so what's left to do is setup your own AA show at a community hall for example. but then, that's a whole lot of money, this time on the shoulder's of the band or promoter - halld charge by the hour i imagine, and apparently the auckland council also wants a hired security officer to make sure there's no drinking and trouble going down. then there's also the PA, plus advertising and you're looking at having to front over 500 dollars easily, with no guarantee you'll make it back on the door charge.

otherwise i don't think any band would scoff at the opportunity to play for kids. the AA shows i've been to and played at have been heaps of fun and i don't know anyone that'd say otherwise.

there is a crew putting on shows at the grey lynn community hall and library quite regularly lately, and there seems to be 4 or 5 lined up over the next 2 months or so. punky metally rocky sorta shit. i'm a bit too jaded to want to go to these shows myself, but i'm sure kids would love them. a quick scroll through www.punkas.com will show you what shows are on that are AA, and there seems to be more these days.

Im launching an auckland wide AA event launch in Dec, first shows in Jan.. phone me for details and to chat about AA stuff generally.. i cangive you a pretty good insight

Hahahahahaha - I have finally gone over the edge........................

Hahahahaha Haha Ha Hahahahahahaha HAHAHAHAHAHA HAhaHAhaHAha

I've put on a few shows at community hall "thistle hall" in wellington.

With security, PA, hall hire and promo it came out to cost 700 odd each time. This was with lots of mates rates and what not.

I always made profit, 3 or four hundie.

Of course the catch is, this hall can only take 99 people legaly due to fire risks etc. So after a few of these 350 people turnouts I can't put on shows there anymore.

So there you have it, the shhpiel of a youngin who tried, suceeded,

but ultimatly failed.
