Seems like something that should be added so that people can check/uncheck the option at their leisure.
When you create a topic, there's a tick box saying "emails to topic starter" - you have to untick it before you post the topic, otherwise you'll just keep getting them. However, I'll fix your black metal topic so you stop getting them, if you want.
Uncheck the box next time. It's a newbie trap.
