DLing your tunes guys.
Good to see some good content going up on myspace. Can be a drag sorting through the crap on there when you're on the hunt for good music.
Though NZ bands seems to be producing way better stuff than half the other unsigned junk around the rest of the world...
Yeah it was one of those Erminas, they are so punk it's incredible. It had "The Rabble" in heaps of colours, fully awesome. I guess one of their Dads owns a caryard.
I severely doubt they would've been paying attention, although dust has said they reserve the right to veto shit.
I've given the myspace songs a listen... like the band alien83 first mentioned, the style of singing reminds me strongly of styles popularised in 80s arty / synth pop. Singer sounds a bit like Roland Orzabal from Tears for Fears or Mark Hollis from Talk Talk on 'Selfishness'.
The other song sounds more contemporary, vocals wise - makes me think of the vocal sound I've heard on some song with Evanescence. I think? God, pretty ignorant of this territory. He's holding on to the female singer while she's hanging off the side of a building or something in the video.
Does the guitarist laying down the main lick in 'Selfishness' like Eddie Van Halen? It's got that big may-as-well-be-a-synth thing going at the start, all compressed arpeggios and stuff.
I gave tomorrow comes in silence a listen, mainly out of curiosity because I'd never heard of any of their influences. It's dripping in melodrama - the songwriting is very 80s sounding, reminds me of the sorta difficult / cold synthpop bands like Depeche Mode and the like, but then it's all mixed up with a bit of careful distortion and other more contemporary rock trappings.
Weird. Is this a particular style of music? Does it have a more specific name than "rock"? Can others more knowledgeable say who it sounds like or where it fits wrt other bands?
It's like a parallel universe to me, I just don't understand it at all.
Actually, I guess some of it reminds me a little of Shihad, who I always thought sounded really 80s too. Pleased to hear they've covered Wire recently.
Hey Jet,
Keith is from Taz, and the boy is a clear genius. Ive managed to get him to come up to melbourne for a show opening for batrider at the tote on 27th sept - you should come along and see him play. batrider are doing a stripped back set that night also so it all should be pretty special.
MySpace is a damn good idea for bands - I've noticed in general many NZ bands have information with MySpace far more up-to-date than their own sites! Probably the best thing I reckon is the Mp3 download option for songs (big ups especially to Deja Voodoo, Duchess and Jordan Reyne on this!!!), which interestingly is not utilized by the NZ bands that have the major local recording contracts.....
I know, I've wondered about that. It would seem to me that you would get such enormous coverage if you were to put songs on myspace. I've found some goodies.....
