Vocalist, and a Bass Player WANTED

WANTED!!

VOCALIST / SONGWRITER (lyrics)

BASSIST / SONGWRITER (lyrics)

We (Drummer and Guitarist) are wanting to form and original Kick-ass Rock n Roll band that are influenced (but by no means limited to) the classic Hard rock sound of the 80's and early 90's..
We both play in a working 80s hard rock/hair metal/glam rock 'Tribute' band around Auckland called 'Maskara', which we totally dig ,and LOVE playing that kinda style to bands like The Cult, Motley Crue, Skid Row, Guns n Roses (to name a few) and especially Cinderella and Quireboys ,with some of that Bluesy guitar...
So if you want to play originals that Rock like those old bands do (the REAL Rock Stars, lets face it people!!), get in touch.

We would prefer guys around our age (early to late 20s - otherwise it just looks wrong), with good gear, committment, Reliability and talent, preferably with band experienceand not to mention cool to be around and part of what will no doubt be, a great band..

Cheers

Forums: Classifieds,

Too band you're not in chch. Im a bass player and have a voclaist - we're looking for guitar and drums...

Cool. Im Bass Player Out West. What Other Music You Listen To?

I listen to all sorts of music - have way over 500 cd's.. I just was raised on that classic kind of Rock, but that is by no means all I like..
To name a few other 'Rock' type of bands I really like (again, WAY different syles)... Faith No More, Morphine, The Breeders , Type O Negative , The Tea Party , 30 seconds to Mars, Rammstein , Audiovent, Bowling For Soup , Fu Manchu ,Silvertide , Mr Bungle ,Fantomas , Motorhead , Queens of the stone age , Hardline etc ... to more acoustic based rock like the Gin Blossoms , Toad the wet Sprocket , Lifehouse, Haven, Chris Isaak, Morrissey... the list goes on man..
The hardest thing I have found is deciding on what kind of style of music to play in a band.I guess it will always be rock - based , just a different degree of 'heavyness', and it always depends on whoever else is in the band, what the common ground is musically...

Awsum 500 CdS ...Morrisey Motorhead Bowling for Soup ? How Old Are You Man And What About Da Shit That Matters Tho? Pistols, Stones, Clash, Ramones, RHCP (Flea is the Mantis!!!), Purple, Ozzy, Sabbath, Rush, Led Zepplin... Do Ya Like That Stuff Man ??? I Wanna Know...

Im 28 .I worked in a record shop for years, and have heard the classics countless times.Somehow Ive ended up getting into groups that were never huge in the mainstream, or big at all in New Zealand, which is a bummer!
Sure, I like some of the classics, and have tonnes of those bands on mp3.I must admit thou, Im not huge on alot of the 60s and 70s classic bands..Heard them all tonnes, But as far as rock goes anyway, Im ann oddball who loves the 80s and 90s more.I realise the bands I like are all influenced by Led Zep etc., and they were probably influenced by the Beatles, and then Elvis etc.. I just dont nessarily believe its essential to go back to the glory days and those artists.I like how music has evolved since then. The older stuff I do love is Alice Cooper, Lynrd Skynrd, The Clash, the Doors,Moody Blues to name a few.Im bigger on the earlier Blues/Country/jazz artists of the early days, rather than the rock.Huge respect to all the big cats out there - they all deserve the recognition they got, as they are all good and have contributed to music development in some way...
What are you into, besides the bands you mentioned? diversity is good, so tell me whoever man.Id be interested to know also...

Wha??? Fuck Yeah You're A Oddball!!! This Dick Has Hundreds CdS And He Loves Motorhead More Than He Likes Led Zepplin, Elvis, Beatles ??? Fuck You !!! Why Don't You Do Us A Real Favor And Stick With The Covers Band And That Way You'll Still Give The World Something They Would Wanna Hear. You Can Go Fuck Yourself Wanting To Start A Proper Rock Band Coz Nobody Is Gonna Wanna Start A Band With You Loser.

Actually I'd be keen as hell to start a band with this dude, have seen him play in his covers band so can actually base my statement on some facts other than your wishy washy daydream beleiver slacker attitude...great to see your so successfull in what you do that you have nothing better to do but criticise other peoples ideas....I guess everyone can see who the real loser is here! Ride the snake??? More like ride the wriggly little earthworm haha

Dude the guy's right. Anybody who thinks that 80's 90's music is better than 60's 70's music doesn't deserve a band. He deserves to waste whatever talent he's got playing in a covers band and not a real one when he's how old anyway??? 28 and still playing covers? Crap maybe talent isn't all he's got he's also got the wrong idea. How can you not like the Beatles and want to start a band, somebody e-mail me
please Jonni198367@yahoo.co.nz. These Guys Are Dorks ;)

Not that I disagree, it was just kind of obvious from your post.

Wow - people like dissin' each other on these forums huh? This was just an innocent 'Vocalist/Bassist wanted ad!'.
I didnt think liking certain types of music over others was such a crime! And playing covers in a band is for people with no talent!! Jonni , do you realise alot of people in covers bands (ourselves included) make a shitload of money, and get to play a good 4 hours or so on stage to some of their favourite songs, and get to have valuble performance and experience on stage, and touring? Beats flippin' burgers for work! We just played the most Kick ass gig most bands would kill for!The Rock radio station just put on the "Playboy Party" at R'toto's Saturday night that we played at and it ruled!Big venue,Heaps of people,Chicks in Bikini's, Spa Pool etc... But I guess you think you are only a 'musician' if you play original music. Its a job,we entertain -how ever way that may be.Heaps of people in covers bands play in original bands as well - like the guys in Esra Dekan, Liquid, Catch 22 - I would hardly say they are all losers for playing covers, theyare good Muso's- and they are ALL probably older that 28!! Your one of those people who is opinionated who likes to dis others. Are you a musician yourself? Do you know how much works involved in getting a band together and KEEPING it going? Its hard work! You have to find people around the same age, similar interests, Professionalism (Alot of people are slack and unreliable-that doesnt work for bands that succeed) , talent -the list goes on.Its not easy, especially since NZ is such a small place.Even Auckland, the biggest city-everybody knows everybody it seems.I have played over the years in over 5 original bands - So I have good experience gigging, and being in an original band. Its hard keeping it together sometimes - people leave, have fights, have no transport, get into drugs - whatever -it all can mean No more bands, and then your back to square one again.
Get over the 80s/90s thing as well. There is good music in ALL the decades of music, past just the big bands who 'made it'.People can like whoever or whatever kind of music they want - thats their choice.Doesnt make them total losers if they dont like the same thing you do.-whatever floats ya boat man.I just happen to get my kicks from cool songs like 'Home Sweet Home', "Might as well be on Mars", "Rocket Queen" ,"Angel" (from Motley Crue, Alice Cooper, Guns N Roses, Aerosmith -for those who dont know the above songs) - go home and krank "Yellow Submarine" if thats what your into - who cares! - just dont dis me or anyone else who doesnt get off on the same stuff as you !! Grow up.There is no absolute right or wrongs with what music is 'right ' to listen to.In Rock Band=didnt grow up on Deep Purple=Loser! is hardly the case.
Not that you would care, but the guys in Faith No More (for example) , all 5 of them liked completely different types of music, yet brought all their influences together to make an original sound, which I think is great. It can be a good thing.
People like Efini (the post above) know whats up..
stay positive people!

Cheers

Alright I'm tired of this debate. You want to start a band you have to be a music fan first. You can't just not like some sorts of music and only like other kinds of music. You have to love every kind of music there is. The problem I have with this guy here is the problem I have with alot of guys. That the only music he'll like is the music that sounds like the music he grew with ( the 80's and 90's sound). He won't like alot of the 50's/60's/70's cause he isn't what he grew up with. How the hell else do you explain somebody who tells you they don't like Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple when they like Iron Maiden?!? They're the same fucking thing !!! That's why when I'm already trying out three other bands I wasn't going to be screwed trying his out. You're not a music fan when you don't own Led Zeppelin. And mate don't trying and make excuse for yourself reading this, I've already explain it, don't be a dick.
You want to start a band you have to be a music fan, the kind of guy who doesn't just listen to the music he grew up with. The kind of guy who listens to things like Classical and Blues because it suppose to be good, the kind of guy who listens to Country and Folk because one of the guys you can't stop listening to keeps listening to it, the kind of guy who'll listen to The Melvins till he gets it the way Dave Grohl does, the kind of guy who stayed up all July Third for Live 8 only cause Bob Geldolf is at it again. That Kind of Music Fan is the guy who starts Bands. The Kind of Guy you would want starting your Band. Since it's not about the money, it's not about playing bars on a friday, , it's not about making out coz you do that you've gone and done something, it about something else. It's all about attitude. An atitude you'll only get when you're a real music fan and not some guy who sticks to what he knows. Alright?!? Just take what I'm saying as a warning but a gentle reminder...

What utter crap!!!

Making music is about personal expression. Personal expression is about freedom of choice. Freedom of choice allows you to not get the Melvins, and not buy Zepplin records, and still make music.

Whereas you, my friend, seem to be shackled by something. Peer preasure? Bad taste? Something Steve Vai said in guitar player magazine in july 1994? Who knows, but it doesn't seem to be serving you well.

Stop reading lists of the 100 greatest records of all time, and start thinking.

the above (robsta) is the exact type of person I -or anyone of my muso circle of friends - would never want to be in a band with..Highly opinionated, absolutely unwilling to accept peoples differences of opinion and extremely argumentative, to the point its laughable . Its so draining hearing ranting about who to like musically, and how all things musical must be done!! Accept people are different in what they like Pal, not everyone thinks the same as you - for real, they really dont. let it go

If you post your email for people to contact you, I'll close the topic for you.

Heh Heh Heh Losers. Music is About Personal Expression. That's The Excuse Any Crap Band With Songs Called Levitate Will Tell You. I Know. They Told Me That When I Talked To Them. The Crap Bands That Don't Have The Balls To Say Things Like It Is. They Just Try And Stay Clever. It's Bullshit. It's More Than Being About Personal Expression. It's About Personal Honesty And That Takes Attitude. This Isn't The Rolling Stone Or Real Groove Talking. This Isn't What I Learnt Off Listening To Somebody Else. This Is What I Think. Personal Expression, Freedom Of Choice Are Excuses Guys Make Everytime Anybody Asks What The Hell Is Wrong With You It's Bono And The Edge. It's This Shit They Hide Behind When They Don't Have The Brains To Think Maybe They Need To Learn Something New.

You Want To Be Different, You Want To Be Good, Listen To Different Things. It's So Obvious. And Dameznuff. Yes I'm Opinionated. Yes I'm Augmentive. Yes I'm A Fucking Asshole. Yes It's Fucking Rock'n'Roll!!!! That's What Rock'n'Roll Is. It's Not Accepting or Taking Crap From Anybody Like You.It's Knowing There's A Way Out And Taking It If You're Coming With Me Or Not. I Don't Care. Coz Don't Tell Me I'm Wrong When You've Got Your Head So Far Up Your Ass You Can't See Your Own Shit - That's Rock'n'Roll !!!!!!!

I cant believe im reading some of this stuff, covers bands not real bands, thats hilarious!! And who wrote the law about having to like certain bands before you can start your own, its totally retarded!! I just hope you guys keep thinking that because with closed minds like yours you obviously wont get anywhere!!

And how can you class Led Zep, Deep Purple and Iron Maiden as the same, they are like chalk, cheese and anti matter! Music is subjective anyone can like whatever they want, it really pisses me off when people say you have to like so and so. SHUT THE HELL UP!!! I couldnt agree more with Dragstrips comments.

Robsta, how many Kwaito albums do you own?

Yeah Hal , You and Dragstrip know what your talkin' about.. Not like that other Ballsack who raves on about nothing more than his opinion - He seems to think he is a music Guru or something! What an absolute joke.
