Besides from the fact that i fucked my 1st comment up........
1 of NZs fav bands at the mo got rubbished! i dont like them very much anyway but i feel proud of them for what they have achieved....but then i found this article....
"New Zealand's Goldenhorse, opening for Toronto's Death From Above and Metric at the Sala Rossa March 3 were, uh, different. There'd been a little bit of hype leading up to them, and they're doubtless good at what they do, I just can't figure out for the life of me why anyone would want to do it. "It" being kind of melodically stodgy, goofily retro-inflected pop. As though Burt Bacharach were doing songs for Lulu. Bouncy and perky (but not for much longer if she keeps it up with all that bouncy) singer Kirsten Morelle definitely has a couple of things going up and down for her, and her singing is compelling when it's not off in some sort of Doris-Day-meets-Dolores-O'Riordan vocal death match, but the repertoire is somewhat baffling. Must be a kiwi thing. And speaking of death........"
So what - obviously they're wern't the reviews cup of tea... thats the wonder of individual opinions - I'm sure Goldenhorse are crying into their soup about it [please note use of sarcasam]
hehe! good call! very nice! i do go outside sometimes...mainly at night tho...
i wasnt trying to push any1s buttons....just trying to spawn self improvement. When i went a saw golden horse not even two weeks ago at the opera house, i left the place with mixed feelings. breaks co-op were very good! im hoping that golden horse just had a bad night (as every band does), they just didnt do it for me! It felt like some1 just put their cd on....mayb my standards are too high...i just didnt feel their live performance stepped up to their cds...i felt the same when seeing them 8 months ago also. im not dissing them! This is only MY opinion so please dont rip me apart for thinking this, I just feel that it is important for a bands live performance to be stronger than the cd. Not saying that they arent talented either, their writing tecniques, great talent and very interesting melodys did capture me. But only because i had recognised them from their cd...they were good but i felt they lacked in something i could not quite put my finger on
But to b quite honest with u, i have only 1 question in the whole world that i wish to b answered..
How the hell did Elemeno P get so famous when they have the weakess live performance ive ever seen!
famous............... think carefully about what factors go into being "famous", then see where live proformances actually fit in the equation, answer how it really is, not how you wish it were, and you probably would have answered your own question
I've caught Goldenhorse a few times while they've been over here, the first time a few years back, I took one of the girls form work to see them, she was at the time spotting bands that some of our engineers could work with, and maybe produce / record a few tracks for, she liked them but said something along the same lines as that reporter above which is interesting, about the vocals and I think lack of a commitment to one theme to their music, if that makes scence, and that was backed up by a bloke from santuary a few nights later when I met him at another gig, When I mentioned it to their manager .. I don't think he was best pleased ... but still I like them.
you work at sir george martin's AIR studio's right?
George being one of the least themed men in music (to his credit)
seems a bit naff that she gave that as her reasoning,
It's pretty bad, you have to speak loud and be looking at him before you can talk to him, he's not totally deaf but near on ... still a good bloke thou .. and still pops in every now and again, not as much as he used to, he was here all the time when I started ..
that's a real shame, but pleased he still has some ears left (even just for talking loudly at). surely an honour to work for a legend like that. you're a lucky man
If I can be honest with you, I didn't even know who he was when I started, took me a few months with him coming in every day before people told me who he was .. I'm not a muso or into making music, I just listen really but now I've been around the scene for a good few years, both going to gigs and being in daily contact with those who make it happen on the recording front and behind the scenes, management, record lables etc .. I understand how things work alittle better, and where George stands as to who he is and what he's done .. at the moment a news channels trying to get ahold of him to make a comment on the death of Robert Moog .. it's for the 7 oclock news .. don't think he'll make it ..!! lol .. he's just phoned, maybe he will make it .. moving on ... He'll be 80 next birthday so his ears have taken a beating over the years they didn't take care of their ears back then I think .. I've always said if he fired me tomorrow I wouldn't say a bad word about him, he's a true old time english gent ..
well when ya form a band, generally whatever comes out is a mix of every musicians musical influences combined into something, it's very rare that a good band will go in and intentionally try to be someone else, i think thats a stupid excuse or reason for not liking a band and is more a compliment for the band than anything, 'you sound like pearl jam, or eddie vedder wanabee' or whatever, shit well that aint such a bad thing if you like them.. i dont think any music out there is 'bad', i can't stand some stuff, but i dont bitch about how i think good music should be, thats my opinion and i dont have to listen to it.. Elemenop in my opinion have the worst vocalist in nz, but your average teeny bopper might love them.. they just enjoy playing and good on them if they got successful doing it. less complaining and more jamming i say.
hey this is a bit off the subject, but my opinion today is that the only thing gay about new zealand music for me is the lead singer for autozamm, nick major I thinkhis name is, he's a cunt and completely full of shit
