You have asked a very pertinent question BART BODEGA. Me of the long list would like to know why Wellington has the best rock bands in New Zealand?
Is it because we have a diverse music scene that accepts many genres or is it because there are some very good organisers that put really good shows together? Maybe audiences are receptive to a wider range of styles and attend gigs with a more open mind?
Firstly the fact that you just swallowed automatically the line that wellington has "better" rock bands than any other place in NZ. Probably I'm just being precious, but it's more to do with the point dusty made in another thread that the categorisation of music by city doesn't really cut it any more.
Secondly, none of your suggestions have anything to do with how "good" a band is. Of course, this is in keeping with your general approach to music which seems to have a whole lot more to do with marketability than talent, so I guess that's not unexpected.

I don't especially like any rock bands from wellington. Shihad are the best of the bunch (id forgotten they were from welly though), but that isn't saying much. Having said that, wellington is special for its awesome dub bands. Personally i think nz dub kicks nz rock in the nuts really hard. Just my opinion though.
All cities have there times of great bands...and the era of wellington 'rock' bands was definately the 90's. Dunners had the 'indy' bands of the eighties... Chch had the rock'n'roll swagger of the early sixties. AK had the late 70s punk explosion etc etc. I don't really go to many gigs these days as I'm becoming a lazy old man but I have not seen a 'rock' band from wellington in ages that i thought was awesome (although I havn't seen the Users or Lady Luck, both of whom are supposed to be the shit). I sort of think auckland has a better scene at the moment...despite it fashionista leanings.
Just my humble opion though, maybe Welllington is awesome at the moment and I just can't see the wood(rock) for the trees(bands)

Couldn't get past round 1 of the dunedin RQ, yet showed more song writing skills then i seen in eons. Some sort of choice blend of The Cure, Wire, The yeah yeah yeahs and HDU. I love it when my faith in the yoof is restored.

Bunnies On Ponies are an E... which is pretty good based on our three gigs. What a funny report! It said Dave Long was the only local producer of note, and yes he is great but if Lee Prebble isn't of note (producing three diferent platinum albums in the last four years, two tui nominations as producer/engineer, producing albums that have won many many bnet awards and been nominated for many tuis etc etc, developing his own studio, mixing new Dobyn album) then i do not know what is.

You are right with the name Blink. a bit more info on them on dunedinmusic.com. On my list of bands to see. Dunedin's scene is exploding at the moment, but unfortunately few venture beyond the city boundaries and most are criminally under-appreciated in their home town. Folks seem happy to turn out for (some) bands from other places and ignore the local talent. Need more A Low Hum tours to get numbers through the doors...
