After a weekend sitting in Glasgow with some fellow NZer's listning to King Loser, HDU, Chris Knox, Straitjacket Fits and The Clean, drinking an outstanding amount of Lager, we discussed in a very slurred manner the merits of Flying Nun.
Are we just homesick ex-pats who are missing the music we grew up with and love, or has Flying Nun really hit the nail on the head by releasing the best music in the world for the last 10 years?
Who else compares? Who else could predict the likes of Chris Knox becoming a national icon, who could have so much faith in HDU releasing such an effort as Cross Channel Multi Tap, and what company would fathom giving Into the Void a chance to record an album, which is a recording that The Jesus and Mary Chain could only dream of?
Are there any other lables that can possibly compare, or are we just being silly buggers high on memories?

I reckon your no too far away from true. Wildside Records has unearthed some real stomping ballsy rock over the last decade or so and can't be forgotten. They've delivered us bands like Shihad, Weta, Slim, Bilge Festival, HLAH, Bailter Space, and even Dead Flowers and Breathe. I'd say Flying Nun and Wildside have definitley lead the way.
It sounds frickin choice that you can sit in Glasgow and enjoy all that is fine in music with like minded lagered individuals - bliss man!

keep your ears out for Arc - sorta Flying Nun 15 years ago but different - a not for profit label in Dunedin that features all these great diverse southern bands really low key but overflowing with soul.
