WTF!? Cannabis Ain't Criminal : Welly bands wanted

Kia ora. =D

Okay there's an election coming up (17th September) so I thought I'd run a gig! It's at Valve, Friday 16th September, the night before the election; hopefully we'll get someone from NORML and the Green Party to come and do some ranting etc.

Does your band want to participate? It'd be cool to have five-ish bands on the night, hopefully showing a cross-culture of Welly talent. Confirmed are Idle Faction and The Body Corporate from Auckland.

For those of you who haven't played at one of my gigs before, I organise everything properly, top postering campaign, radio exposure, wicked lighting, stage and venue decorating, great sound and pro sound engineer, actual sound checks, visuals, the works. This is going to be a rocking gig. /m/

If you want in, drop me a line! == darren@lucidtone.com

Forums: NZ Music,

Sounds brilliant bro. Any chance of a webcast?

Maybe! I think I know someone with Woosh that might lend us their connection and my laptop can probably handle the jandal. Do you know anywhere that relays webcasting? I've never done it before...

Wish I could help, but I'm not clever enough- I'll settle for some good pics if need be ;-)

good luck with the gig :)

i've decided i'm against legalising cannabis, not because i think its bad (it's rather good stuff on the right occasion), but because of all the fucking annoying drug culture that goes with it.
all these twenty somethings in ponchos sniggering because something 'looks' like a bong, all those t-shirts with cannabis leaves on them. etc etc
would be nice if people could just smoke the stuff and have a good time getting fucked up without buying into all this cheesy cosmic corner bullshit, the guy that runs those shops must be the richest hippy around.

of course i'll probably end up showing up to the gig anyway, because overall its a good idea to at least decriminalize - waaaaaay better than everyone drinking alcohol all the time. . . .

Damn straight. the thing that really gets me are those cheap posters of an alien smoking a doobie. However, theres nothing better than getting baked then lying back with a few boxes of N2O and listening to a few of your favourite albums I gotta say.

//However, theres nothing better than getting baked then lying back with a few boxes of N2O and listening to a few of your favourite albums I gotta say

indeed....N2O is great stuff .. . . i don't really need those B-vitamins anyway...

This show should be great fun. I hope all you welly NZM'ers turn up to this one.

man, sounds cool, unfortunatly with the sexy new petrol prices i dont think i can afford to make it down from auckland.

Also confirmed, Dragstrip, Cop Car and Crumb. =D

If anyone knows anyone who can do us cheap lighting, I want to hire a whole bunch of lights.... maybe you know someone who works backstage in a theatre or who helps set up dance parties?

Ah, I stand corrected, when I heard my workmate yell out 'Crumb have confirmed' she meant 'have Crumb confirmed?'

stupid english. she should have emailed me. ;-)

Ooooh I'm looking forward to playing with Dragstrip (and hearing them!)

We're not a them, I'm a him.

Argh! Ooops... my appologies Mr Strip - even though I play in 4+ bands I'm terrible for actually knowing anything about any other artists!

Having said that I'm still looking forward to playing with YOU!

[btw the last 2 WTF gigs were absolutley great - well worth while, great lighting, awsome atmosphere and generally just a rollicking good time!]

Gah! I'm gonna be out of town.

Gawdammit. I'll have a smoke in this gig's honour.

I know ya will! =D

Okay the lineup is finalised!!

* Amy Racecar (Hamilton)
* The Body Corporate (Auckland)
* Idle Faction
* Cop Car
* Dragstrip
* Alabaster Theatre
* Libra Accord

If anyone would like to lend a hand, we could use help in the following areas:
* poster printing - do you work for a govt dept and can get free A3 printing after hours? do you know anyone who's an architect and could get large format printing cheap?
* lighting - do you know anyone who hires lights, works in theatre, owns a bubble machine etc etc etc and can you score it for cheap/free for the night?

This gig is going to f*()^ rule!!! RAR!!!!

Cool!! As usual I will enedovour to do my digitial pimping to all my geek friends...

hey I'm sure I read that alabaster theatre own a bubble machine... non?

That we do, that we do...

I think we should give away special brownies at the door.

I like that idea

i thought the greens didn't like cars? and yet theres four bands in the lineup whose names pertain to... cars... I hope you'll all be in your racing stripes ; P sounds like a great gig.

haha.. nice one kirk .. .
might have to come along, thats a fine line up. . . .

///hey I'm sure I read that alabaster theatre own a bubble machine... non?

So do Body Corporate... twos better than one right?

Fully =) If it's fine, bubble machines outside would rawk. And a hotbox tent. I have a little two man dome tent that hotboxes five comfortably *grin*

perfect time to post your comment be'! :)

hehe! you laptopping in a tent? or are ya just baked off ya nut? =D

ahhhh! 4:20!!! =D

The Green party has shot up the polls (6.6% according to Herald, 8% by NBR's count). This is good for you leagalisers. I totally support the softening of drug laws but I am way more interested in other things the greens can do for NZ in terms of energy and health.... so lets keep those party vots coming boys and girls (I'm gonna get in trouble with the christian right nzmusic posters again! Doh!)

Personally I think the law is too soft, anyone who votes for any party on the issue of legalisation/decriminalisation should have their right to vote withdrawn.

Actually raising the voting age to 35 would be a much simplier idea, with a cut off at 50, ie only people between 35 and 50 can vote...

I fully agree! Absolutely!

You agree with Devil Rider or that other guy, be'?

I'm with Mr Rider.

And I think that anyone who supports a tax cut which will give rich people a bigger cut than the poor people who need it, then they are fools... and I hope that the rest of NZ votes differently than them.

Eddieeee *hugs*

Heh, I think I may have been detecting sarcasm in there somewhere and riding with it =)

//And I think that anyone who supports a tax cut which will give rich people a bigger cut than the poor people who need it, then they are fools... and I hope that the rest of NZ votes differently than them.

Well technically a tax cut is always going to benefit the rich more than the poor - but I'm pretty sure we all understand what you mean...

It's interesting actually recently the Green party have been steering away from their legalise cannabis policy and focusing on other areas... as is I think it needs to be de-criminalised for users as opposed to legalised.

Just for Sic - though I wouldn't mind seeing a change in voter eligibility I would prefer to see some sort of breeding (child) license brought in more.

STOP HIJACKING MY @*(#$&^%( THREAD YOU M*&()^F*(&^RS!!!!

=D

[takes his beleclava (sp?) off]

Sorry dude - it'll be a great night either way - see I even posted links to pics from the previous ones!!

//Well technically a tax cut is always going to benefit the rich more than the poor - but I'm pretty sure we all understand what you mean...

I loved the sub headline that the Dom Post had the other day - it was something like "National Policy would benefit the well-off the most" - it's like "Newspaper Sub Editor states the obvious".

I so can't wait to play our new stuff live. Tom from Fanatics loves his Lucidtone Paddy btw *grin*

//I would prefer to see some sort of breeding (child) license brought in more.

Yes, that's forward thinking. And it could be applied initially in certain low gene pools.
