Well, our singer and our other original guitarist were up all night drinking, writing and recording, an instrumental piece was laid down and completed at 8.48 am ,so 848 bacame the song's title. The band had not been oficially formed yet. A while later we had a hall gig in New Plymouth to play but no name for the band, 8Forty8 was used as a temporary name but when the gig was packed out with 500 people that loved it, we decided not to lose the small following we had gained and stuck with the name. Not a very exciting story really but that's how it came about.
How did your gig the other week go?
Do you 8Fourty8 boys have girlfriends?
Do you write the words first, or the music?
When are you playing next in Aucks?
Savlon, to answer your questions. the gig went great, it ran at a profit which is always good, had about 300 people there. Girlfriends? some yes, some no. Song writing? With us the music generally comes first, we normally find it easier to write lyrics around the music than vice versa. Auckland gigs? nothing booked at the moment but we're keen to gig there soon.
I have had the pleasure in hearing these guy's rock like you would'nt believe! their musical ability on stage and off go without saying. For many of those that have heard these guy's would undoubtedly agree that they are certainly one of the best hard rock acts to follow! All the best 8forty8.
You can now also visit at www.myspace.com/8forty8 and preview 4 tracks from the forthcoming album, including the "Out Of Mind" mix from "The Axe Attack NZ Metal Vol 1" CD Mastered at Studios 301, Sydney by Don Bartley.
8forty8 have always been mean....and always will be......hope to see you boys at the Sinate listening party at 6 ft on 23rd and if not you better be at the gig on the 14th Oct. This is Colonel BTW.
While we're on the Metal topic, for those of you who don't know, the 8Forty8 song "Out Of Mind" features on" The Axe Attack Vol 1" the best of NZ Metal compilation cd which is available at Sounds.
8Forty8 are currently preparing a tribute set to Led Zeppelin that will be performed at the Hamilton Gardens festival on Sat 18th of February, covering all their classics including Whole Lotta Love, Stairway To Heaven, RocknRoll, Dazed And Confused, Since I've Been Loving You etc.. im sure you'll havE a great show
Thanks Ronald, you have some good taste. Unfortunately we can't do When the Levee Breaks as it's in open tuning and we already have to juggle enough guitars. In the past we've done Kashmir as part of the Zep show, don't think we're doing it this time though but it's a great song.
The Zep Tribute show at the Hamilton Gardens on Saturday 18th Feb 06, kicks off at 12.30pm and goes to 2.00pm, admission is "FREE" so be sure to write this down on your calender. Don't miss out on this opportunity for a free concert off classic rock performed by seasoned musicians with a true passion for Led Zeppelin.
8Forty8 will be rocking at Hamilton's 6Ft Under on Friday 9th December. They will perform songs from the forthcoming 8Forty8 album plus some classic covers by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, Megadeth and Soundgarden.
It had been a while, like 25 years? that I've been to a rock concert and I have to say that the 8forty8 band is amazing. Their performance of the tribute to Led Zeppelin was something I'm not going to forget for a while. You guys know the music and it's coming from your hearts!. I certainly enjoyed it, so did my kids aged 13, 22 and 20. LZ lives on! Thanks guys. (the kids thought it was a bit loud, I thought that i was just loud enough.....)
Hey thanks very much, we're really glad you guys enjoyed the show. We've been receiving e-mails from people telling us how much they loved the gig, and that makes all the rehearsal and hard work worth it. We really enjoyed performing those amazing songs and giving people a chance to hear them played live. Thanks to all those that turned out and supported us, the crowd was amazing.
8Forty8 are an originals band, on this occasion we did a one off tribute show to one of our favorite bands that has given us much inspiration over the years! is there something wrong with that?
We opened the gig with original material also and it was very well received. Many of the greats have covered other people's material, eg Eric Clapton didn't write "I Shot The Sheriff" "After Midnight" or "Cocaine" it's nothing new for original artists to do covers!
