Whatever happened to...

Whatever happened to Stellar, Anika Moa, Andrew Fagan, The Headless Chickens, K'Lee, Southside of Bombay, Rumour Bitch, the Anchor Milk Family ads and Liz Shaw?

Forums: NZ Music,

Anika Moa just released a new album, Childrens Hour (The Headless CHickens) are playing tomorrow, Andrew fagan (does he still do the morning show on Kiwi? he still plays everynow and then as well

I heard K'lee was still doing stuff.

//Childrens Hour

there was a cool little interview with Chris Matthews(?) on active this evening. . .i've been a big Headless Chickens fan for a long time now, so i'm seriously considering heading along to see Childrens Hour next week, i think its at Bodega??

Good to hear Andrew Fagan is still playing. My flatmate used to stalk him!

Universal is no longer the label that pays K'Lee. She was dumped in a so-called post-9/11 slashing. As far as I know, she's currently labeless. I last saw her on the cover of a fitness magazine a couple of years ago talking about how life on the road made her gain weight, but, like, now she's all healthy.

//I heard K'lee was still doing stuff.

hmmm...the dole? going down to WINZ every tuesday begging her case mgr for a new job? sounds like "interesting" stuff to me.

// are playing tomorrow

sorry...that was meant to say "next week"

anika moa is putting out a new album.
liz shaw..isnt there another thread on her discussing that?

A new Anika Moa album huh? I missed that completely - this is what comes of not watching TV. So, is it any good, or is she still trying to be Dido?

she's done a bunch of press where she keeps saying this is more her own album, whereas her first one was other people telling her what to do, how to sound - strange thing tho, she recorded her new album here, but went to New York to mix it with the same producer as her first album, which explains why it sounds no different ot the first one.... go figure

The first single is lovely. The album is produced by Ed Cake (of Bressa Creeting Cake, he of great solo record and the soundtrack to Rain) and i think he was a good choice for her as he understands pretty songs but he aint to poppy or cheesey.

super charger?

L** S*** is going to "radio school". Apparently she got the very last spot on the course.

I'd like to see how they tame her over-enunciated la-de-da middle-New Zealand vowels into broadcast-worthy tones.

Yeah and aside from that shes bugging the shit out of everyone at NZgames.com (my other haunt)...

she did the rounds on punkas for a bit. she got paid out HARD

Yeah she'd already been flammed to death last year by the NZGames crew (who can be mighty harsh - god bless them :-)... however she came back and ended up with 500 odd posts of ridicule :-)

Yeah it's pretty easy to be harsh when you're sitting behind a computer screen somewhere rather than actually talking to somebody's face. It's kinda unsurprising that the computer game community (well, those old enough to be using forums) would be particularly vocal - the same sort of people who (traditionally, stereotypically...) get bullied and left out at school.....I guess they've got a lot of anger in them.

that and the fact she's clueless about how to conduct herself socially from what i've read - the people who go to uni with her seem to have their eyebrows permanently cocked in regards to that woman

//Yeah it's pretty easy to be harsh when you're sitting behind a computer screen somewhere rather than actually talking to somebody's face.

Yeah I do know what you mean.... actually much like NZmusic there is a pretty cool crowd of people at NZgames (alot of whom I know personally) and they have a tendencay to 'tell it like it is' and not put up with shit... Liz had already made a nuicance of herself previously so some of the flames which went her way were well and truley justified:-)

Still was pretty damn funny - I have no sympathy for Liz, she tends to bring it upon herself - having said that I actually have no doubts that she'll do well in some field eventually.

I don't know what Stella are up to, but judging by the number of copies of The Magic Line in the bargain basement at Real Groovy, well, I suspect a third album isn't in the works.

actually, they are currently working on a new album to my knowledge...be out early next year i reckon...

check out their message board, stellar are still round and i myself can't wait for a new album/them to tour again.

And I don't know about the rest of the Anchor family, but The Anchor Mum got her tits out in a 2002 Australian film called "The Hard Word".

Future Stupid.......

Yeah! My first NZ rock and roll gig was a Future Stupid gig. Musta been about 95, 96.

Hell yes, good call. There was a band called Supercharger that was 1/2 Slim, 1/2 Future Stupid... and Slim obviously was part-Pumpkinhead...

I was in a little band in Palmerston North around 1996ish that lucked out on a support for HLAH, Future Stupid and the almighty Motorsheep... I still find "I *heart* motorsheep" bumper stickers in the strangest places...a bit like ex vietnam vets who still hear the choppers...

hahah.. foisemaster... master cheese maker.. anyone know whatever happened to Ashley Rooney? Was that his name? always bugged me how much like Mike Patton he thought he was... mm

Master Cheese Maker! Whatever happened to Mike Beattie?

He he... I know someone who knows someone, I'll pop off an email & see what comes up. Old Palmy bands never die, they only fade away... there was one in particular I remember called 'Brick Sh!thouse', brilliant sonic art noise (I think they had one of the 'foise on guitar). Oh and another one called 'Meatmarket'- these girls scared me half to death! Tribal druming and walls of distorted bass guitar meltdown supporting feminist poetry... WHO'S GONNA NAIL ME TO A F*CK'N CROSS?!?!? ...geez. They played on concourse freaking out the first-years. Brilliant.

Hell, I hadn't thought about Meatmarket for years - Elise and Sarah were a feature of the music scene when I turned up in Palmy and started hanging out in the still very much missed Wild Horse Saloon. If you can't find Mike any other way, Murray is still around Palmie, he's in Turbostill, I think they're still going, and they're easy enough to find.

wild horse saloon: gotta love a pub that doesn't even check your I.D when you're sixteen and look it. Saw No Means No there about ten years ago- huhum.. wild.

Heh - I was at that No Means No gig and all. The Wild Horse was wrong on so many levels, and yet it was a great place to be. I felt quite lost after it closed down, until I felt growed up enough to become a regular at the Celtic.

i was the small sixteen year old who probably spilt your beer and ran into the little huhum um mosh pit and came out black and blue.

What's happened to rope, tclak, manamana, samflux, Dr Gymkhana, Megaccino and christianity?

Rope is organising an animal parliament, tclack is a busy rock star/sold out, mana got a job and a haircut and is too ashamed to show his face, Dr G is a hard-working learner (I think), Mega got tired of getting people angry at her.

Don't know about sam - he's sporadic at the best of times isn't he? and christianity. tho he posted lately didn't he?

Sam's a fulltime Autozamm music vid director...

I heard something from Dr G a while back, but nothing lately. I hope everyone is safe & well.

Also Lucifer Sam's been mighty quiet.....too quiet.

Dr G is probably hiding out cos she STILL hasn't sent me my cds, and I think you should ask Robyn why Luci's been so quiet lately - I hear he has his hands real full...

Dr G - "make me a mix and i'll send you one back"............ yeah right

Maybe I'm just her favourite.... aaah yes.

There was a stabbing outside last time I played there, gang-related- some guy was wearing the wrong colours and was attacked by a guy with a screwdriver... this is going back a few years, maybe they've turned it all around since then?

...whoops, wrong thread...

This is my official apology.

Joanna, my love, my mix cd for you has gathered much dust but is still ace so please (yes, again, sorry) email me your postal address and it will be on its way with a newly-mixed sibling.

benjamin, my excuse for you is that the cd artwork and the spray adhesive needed to complete the aartwork are many kilometres apart. I will remedy this, and you too will get a bonus disc with the original. The card with your address on it is currently being used as a bookmark (for a Robert Hughs collection, if I remember correctly.)

To the other person whose login I'm not certain of, but who I also owe a cd to - yours too has been made and is waiting to be posted. I'm sorry, it won't happen overnight, but it will happen (probably next week when I'm next at home.)

Other people have recieved my cds! I'm not a scam, promise! (tell em, Jimi, Jon, others...) I take this opportunity to point out that somebody has my Flying Nun DVDs, and has not sent them back as promised...I'm not the only slack one around here. Ahem.

// To the other person whose login I'm not certain of, but who I also owe a cd to

Would that be me? I believe my log-in and name are pretty self-explanatory, so maybe not.

I think I asked for a cd? But I never got a reply. Nobody loves me.

Dr G (and anyone else who wants to send me stuff): my work postal address is PO Box 19090, Wellington, New Zealand.

scr: I don't love you quite so much now that I know it wasn't you who sent me a valentine. *sob*

You could pretend that it was me. That could work, right?

Should I say I was thinking of you when I licked the envelope?
