Coketunes not for mac!!??

So the new coketunes has been launched - great you cry seeing as itunes isn't here yet...downloads for everyone.... but alas the dumbasses have designed a system that isn't supported by macs. disappointed.

Forums: NZ Music,

...so... Haha...:P

Hilarious.

It doesn't seem to like firefox either.

Must have: PC, IE, Windows Media. You may as well just tell people to go to hell. What a crack up.

it's obviously designed to be used from work, because thats the only place anyone has Windows + IE + Media Player these days

its also the only place most people can't download mp3's to...

//its also the only place most people can't download mp3's to...

Well thats fine because the files are only available in WMA (which apparently Ipods don't do)... and before you say 'fine just chuck 'em into Itunes and convert', apparently as they are licensed Itunes will not let you do this.

So what bloody use is this site?

// the files are only available in WMA (which apparently Ipods don't do)

according to the very page you linked to...

"I use Real Audio player, free download. It reads WMA files and also connects to my IPOD. I can easily transfer files inlcuding WMA from my library to my IPOD! Yay for that!"

Bah I should have read further down... my appologies...

However it still means you have to get 3rd paty software to actually get the tracks going for an Ipod - and by converting the file I'm guessing you would be (technically) in breach of the copyright for the track (as the artists have allowed multiple copies of the file to be made but no mention has been made of format shifting - I've sent them an email but am yet to get a response).

It just seems, well, stupid if you ask me... I mean not supporting the most common portable player around and all that...

Oh and lets not get into the issue of them compressing already compressed files (which as one of our techies pointed out can often make the file actually bigger [don't ask me I'm not a tech]).

// It just seems, well, stupid if you ask me

I totally agree.

Mac users might be able to console themselves with this little equation:

Coketunes = pay money for music. Limewire = get music for free.

Of course, if you download it and you love it (like I did with Tegan and Sara, whoa baby, "I bet it stung" is good....) you should really do the right thing and go buy it. But that's a whole other thread.

Bloody well hurry up, Apple, and make the iTunes store work in New Zealand, ow!

It's because apple refuses to allow it's technology to be used by anyone other than them - so until that happens...coketunes and windows media it is.

Personally, I'm stoked. About time there was a legal downloads store in NZ. Good on em I say.

// It's because apple refuses to allow it's technology to be used by anyone other than them

Or that the site creators just couldn't be arsed designing a cross-platfrom friendly site.

// About time there was a legal downloads store in NZ.

amplifier? digirama?

...ah of course...but the morre the merrier though right?

if the coketunes site could be compatible with macs I see no reason other than the above as to why they wouldn't....???

// if the coketunes site could be compatible with macs

too much effort for too small a proportion of the total market.

And especially with iTunes looming up in the background. Why bother developing for an audience that are almost certainly going to jump ship as soon as iTunes NZ gets launched?

I also saw something on the recent Real Groovy DL promotion that said Apple refuse to share their DRM doohickey.

But like someone said above: AMPLIFIER!

Sony is holding up both the Aussie, and NZ iTunes store. It's nothing to do with Apple. And any site that requires IE i'm going to ignore.

"It's because apple refuses to allow it's technology to be used by anyone other than them - so until that happens...coketunes and windows media it is."

Isn't that exactly what Coke and Windows are doing? Restricting use to people who use media player rather that iTunes. If Coketunes were allowing downloads in MP3 format then peeps would be able to use them on their ipods without the drama of coverting it. If you think Coke/Microsoft are making it difficult to use your downloads on your APPLE MP3 player to make their jobs easier you are naive.

Once iTMS hits Australisia, you will all forget CokeTunes anyway. Anyone remember the Minidisc player?

coming soon: Sony DVD players that will only play movies produced by Sony-owned movie production companies.

noizy, please tell me you are just fucking around. I mean, I don't believe you but, this is a crazy world and you never know...

Also, if you are using iTunes – check out P Money on iTMS US. I understand he's this weeks featured artist.

If you can hold on just a wee bit longer...
