i second that, hilikus. Mr. Lange has been so influential on nz politics and in such good ways. NZ could do with another leader like him. very good man. my prayers are also with the Lange family.

That said, it exemplified the anti-National angle I've been picking up from TV3 lately (although it's actually probably the work of Duncan Garner). I mean, Don is a cockfaceknuckle, but I almost (almost) feel sorry for him the way they linger on shots of him looking stupid a la The Office's David Brent.
They've had a bit of fun with it on breakfast as well. I'm not sure if it is just TV3. I think it was some genuinely priceless dorkiness. The kind we haven't had since Geoffrey Palmer's trumpet playing for telethon...

I saw that on the news earlier very sad. He's been looking very very frail, but that's pretty crazy.
Some cynic (possibly via Russell Brown) pointed out that if he dies in the next few weeks that it would be a potential election-loser for National.
I saw him outside a public lecture last year which was too full for me to get into. Still funny and commanding.
