Some of the recent forums around ways for local bands to get their name 'out there' got me thinking. What about a forum where local bands post details of where NZM folk can check out and download free MP3s. The upside for the bands is easy promo, with those trawling these forums gaining exposure to new artists and having a single place to go to check out plenty of local acts. Perhaps bands could post details as follows with MP3 location in the website box below. Here's mine...

Hey Portia,
Yeah I know they used to do this but got the impression they have stopped adding new ones, as the featured ones on the front page seem to have been the same for some time. I could be wrong though.

I use over 20 different free mp3 sites to get hundreds of downloads each day, and have at least one tune signed in the states for a compilation as a direct result.

this is an article I prepared on the subject earlier in the year, though please note:
Download.com now has streaming
mp3.com.au is now running smoothly
amazon.com is no longer accepting unsigned acts
mixposure.com + isound.com are new sites I have been enjoying.
myspace.com - 45 Million unique visitors a month? you'd be crazy to be missing out!
+ there is also nzmp3.co.nz
cheers, matt.

there's some worldie music type outfit that does sitar and tabla stuff (I think?)calling themselves Ishta. About 2 years ago I found out about them when I got a couple of calls asking when we were playing Galatos. I rang Galatos and asked them if they could pass on my number to them, they said they'd passed the message on but the other Ishtar never bothered to give me a call.
It hasn't given us any problems with people showing up to our gigs expecting to see them so I'm personally not worried about it. All the same might be interesting to meet them maybe have a jam. Can't say I've ever jammed with a sitar player.
