The Rockstar Game (Return Of)

Only posting this because the forum has many references to the old version of the game and I think people would benefit (if you can control yourself) from the game.

When Rockstar Game folded in 2003 I lost ALL the fkcin code but have spent the past 7 months recoding it all (to the best of my failing memory) and added quite a few improvements although most of these are hidden and are there to extend the life of your game.

The new URL for the game is www.therockstargame.com (again, lost the old one - which is now for sale @ $25,000 (USD))

Anyway.. the game launches 1st August (as beta). I thought i'd just let you lot know about that.

Thanks,

Carl

p.s. and it's free

Forums: The Bar,

Oddly enought I was going through some old note books just the other day and found the final places for the old game.
I for one will pop in tomorow and have a wee looky

Heh. Game on.

Loved that game! Ahhh the competitive memories...

It's up people, it's up!

NZM group: nzm (password:morse)

http://www.therockstargame.com ]

ok. my bad. the group thing doesn't seem to be work. or someone else beat me to it....

The group is working now. Our ID is "3", with the same password mentioned above.

I'm in and already, 19,000 folk have turned onto Schooner and his Seamen!

buggggggggggggger i forgot, so many people already so far a head

Whats the deal strategy wise? Cause i'm making the mooolah, #8 tickets sold, #8 on the richlist. And yet i'm #103 overall. Not many people have singles out... Whats the deal?

I have totally forgoten how to play the game, I am almost tempeted to leave pink pages and form a new band.......... bugger these venues that let me play while I am still shite, I needed some quality control

same i've dropped back to 7th from 2nd.

and you are back at 4th now so stop moaning, Nzmers seem to be doing pretty well, it was nice of the other Carl to invite us to play.

i had no idea what to do - i just went ahead and used up all my points without understanding where they came from and what they did - wish i could start again now. my poor sick lil virtual rockstars. very creative but very ill.

you fix illness by resting, gig less practice more, and there is no rules about not having more than one band, you can use the same email to start a new band............. have a look at the ranking board and there is a HUGE hint if rank is what you are after.......... wasn't your band doing well in popularity?

We should start an NZM label. Any takers?

We seem to have over $1.7 Million in cash...

Hahaha nice

congratulations to pigs figs on a world number one

who's pigs figs, anyway?

Okay, I signed up and joined the group. I hardly remember how to play anymore, so tips would be nice.

I like that you can give yourself band members. I don't remember that in the original version.

ha! singles are now viewable - some great b-sides there. TITTYCLAK has some good 'uns. and i like the FBB's 'trance is so in right now' b-side.

//I like that you can give yourself band members.
//ha! singles are now viewable - some great b-sides there
This is actually part of the game I find really hard ........ coming up with names, I tend to have an old news paper next to me and pick the 1st word my eye falls upon........ eeew thats a nasty image, eye balls falling out..........
any hwo I look at others' names and stuff and try to imagine what they were thinking....... have a look at carl with a k's band names, it must have been lunch time when he picked them

The other thing I would love to know is what genre people are playing, have they been true to life or are they having fun......... is TITTYCLAK rapping for Jesus, judging from his song titles I'd say not....

//The other thing I would love to know is what genre people are playing

Liquid Meat Product is a ska band, complete with a horn section.

Dragstrip's doing in cyberspace what he does in the real world-"Hoodoo Folk" (and talking about himself in the third person).

In fact in a reality/cyber collision I found out yesterday that in cyberworld I'm top of the Aus/NZ charts, and in the real world I had the most played record on RDU in the last month.

Roll on 11:30, and the latest placings!

I'm not clever enough to know if this is a worry.............
but there is some sort of virus thing happening

external link ]

no worries for the firefox/opera users amongst us...

WhooHoo, Dragstrip storms the charts- straight in at number 1 with the single "A Nun in a flop-house", and numero uno in the album charts with "The Atlas-Syndrome".

Hoodoo-Folk is so godam hot right now.

Princess Tiare's (really not an Ani Di Franco clone, oh no) Her Royal Highness is #2 in Europe. I'm stoked.

//straight in at number 1 with the single
pft I did that yesterday........... how bloody sucksome is it that a song rating a mere 45 knocks a 75 song off #1 just because hoodoo bloody folk is more "popular"?????

oh and all you rich baggages who were getting mega millions for ticket sales, it's been changed..............

//Princess Tiare's

So how many of us are running bands not listed on our friends group?
I keep looking at our figures over all............ I think NZM.com as a group are kicking some major butt

Oh, well. No-more getting 100% capacity at 6 stadiums at $27 a ticket for me then. I made about $5million last tour. Just as well I got a quick one in just before the roll-over, the world will be mine, mine I tells ya.

I've got a group in the US called 'the Holy Loners', I started them late and they're so crap I couldn't bring myself to put them in the group. Maybe soon?

these are the stats for us... well the us I know of
world charts
3 top 10 albums 2 top 10 singles
9 in the top 100 in rank
6 in the top 30 ticket sales
5 in the top 30 rich list

and yeah, there are a few "Hidden Experimental" bands out there

// oh and all you rich baggages who were getting mega millions
// for ticket sales, it's been changed..............

was wondering how long that would last. I managed to pack out the big venues a few times, charging $50 a head. Crazy...

I supose it will make it easier for some, to start up a label when the time comes..... remember your friends ya buggers.

I must admit a wee bit of a sulk about not selling out and charging full price when I could, but it's all part of playing a beta game, the rules will change and when least expected.

I think the bug ran deeper than that. I could get hundreds of thousands of pounds for a 1 pound gig in a small venue. The amount you got appeared to be calculated on your "pulling power" regardless of ticket price or venue size....

yup pigs figs huge #1 hit was called Joannaica
We've Sailed Seven Seas (Joanna's Song) is a B-side on Chugga Lug Lug, Schooner's In Your Tub! a top twenty hit by Schooner & His Seamen

And Help help help Pink Pages wants to release a single tomorow, but I can't get to a computer at the right time, could someone log on or me and do it?? it needs to happen between 10 and 10.30, after 10 so there is enough points and before the next update at 10.30........... if you can help please PM me via the game, and i'll give you details......... BUT I will be machineless after 8.30am

//And Help help help Pink Pages wants to release a single tomorow

Got it covered. Differing time zones will make it cake for me.

virtual karma may visit those scalpers?

i would've sold out, but it didn't even cross my mind to charge above the upper limit ... as a manager of my virtual band, i'm crap in that i'm good and noble despite myself. in retrospect i want to scalp.

i'm so loving people's song names/album names. that's a huge part of the joy for me. TITTYCLAK the mc rappa is so leading the pack on that basis.

//the bug ran deeper

yeah - i noticed i sold out two venues, same price at both, same size, but one earnt more than the other. damned door-staff!!!!!! or perhaps guitarist Pete De Niro had to run out and buy heaps of 9 volt batteries for all 23 of his effects pedals.

At least we're not being rated for popularity and sales on a "real world" scale. Because then being from Enzedalia would be a severe disatvantage. Living in the land where a 150 unit sale can equal a number 1 and all that.

I always charge top dollar for gig's, I mean why undersell youself-it's not real.

The only thing I need to work on now is ability.

//I always charge top dollar for gig's, I mean why undersell youself-it's not real.

so do i, but you could charge ANYTHING before the bug got ironed out. audiences would vote with their feet if you breached the 50 pound mark (i think, or was it more?), but you could charge anything unrelated to what your record company set.

//i'm so loving people's song names/album names

see at least two songs with joanna in the title?

`//see at least two songs with joanna in the title?

Really?

Cheers Velocity
I now have 3 singles in the top 40, with an ability of only 48.
I still don't understand how a band with a writing ability of 36 can get songs rating in the 80s, I think it is time to amit the horrible truth my Indie Rock band is just crap pop dressed as the "real deal".... oh the shame of it all

yep, the highest song i've ever got is around 70, with the rest around 50, while others with lower writing ability are getting higher song ratings. also my album has a higher rating than most of the others but it's selling like shit.

and what's with the lame ass popup windows that have just appeared today?

i'ma thinking that touring your single or album has a big effect on how it sells/rates. that's what i've found in the last wee while. if you release a good single, it won't rate as well as it should unless you tour. i think. touring isn't just for the moolah.

hope that wasn't obvious ... it only occurred to me, that this part of the game might be a bit like the real world - seems to be the case and seems to be affecting the $$ and chart ratings of my singles.
