The overall sound of the thing reminded me of a general MIDI file. I guess short percussive hits would be pretty easy to sample and play back, compared to eg. strings or woodwind.
I found it more interesting than eg. Satriani, Vai or Buckethead, but less interesting than eg. Mixmaster Mike or A-Trak.
Haha... Zillatron.. haven't heard it, but Buckethead was probably a bad call. Was trying to think of musicians obsessed with virtuosity and a bit low on inventiveness
A virtuoso, Ronald James? Absolutely. But virtuosity has nothing to do with the quality of composition he chose to play. He does what he does outstandingly - it's not my taste in music, however. Each to their own, I would say.
the compositions are sound, you can't seriously be dissing Mozart and Rimsky-Korsakov jackieg. sure the arrangements aren't George Martin gems, but this man is clearly involved in a demonstration performance in a small space requiring the use of backing tracks. he is not a noted arranger, he is a player and he kicks everyone's collective ass.
