well first of all, hi to everyone once again, i think its been 1-2 years since ive last been on here. anyways....
Goddamn, these guys piss me off something bad. i have to let off steam somewhere. heres whats happened. About mid Febuary, i placed an order at rockshop for a Pearl EX in fusion sizes (polished chrome), a 16x16" addon floor tom, and a zildjian ZXTi Cymbal pack (bad choice of cymbals, but hey, i didnt know) well the kit was meant to arrive in a week or two, it took a month +, and the cymbals took just as long. now heres where my problems really started. the floor tom was meant to arrive in 4 weeks. its been 5 MONTHS!!, and its still not here!!!! they lied to me, changed their stories, and i dont know when it will end. Also, a few months after buying the kit, i saw in an old advertiser that i was meant to recieve a ZBT cymbal pack and a stool with the kit, which they never gave me!!, but i talked to and nagged all the people i could and eventually they gave in and gave it to me.
Anyone have any advice on what i should do, maybe legal advice, because this is REALLY becoming an issue.

I have waited 6 for a 10" tom come once, so I know how you fell.

yes it is, since it looks like you didn't have much $$, I would have gone for Sabian B8 Pro, but anyway....

You want some advice?
Don't buy shit from the rockshop or music works - They are over priced, there services suck and they don't give a rats arse about the customer.
Heres an example to clear up what I mean. I brought a crybaby wah from the rockshop a few years ago and after a good pounding the button snapped - expected because cry baby's arn't the strongest wah's in the world. I took it to the rockshop to get it repaired (as it was still under 1 year warranty) they took the pedal and I didn't see it for another three weeks. That pedal lasted a little longer and last december it died 2 weeks out from a show. By this stage I was very bitter towards the rockshop so I refused to get a new wah from there. Instead, with credit card in hand, I ventured onto the internet and found a site that shipped to NZ where I could get a wah ($80 cheaper than at the rockshop - shipping included). So I brought it on a monday, it arrived on a thursday. In true crybaby fashion died on the friday. I quickly wrote an email to the site explaining what happened. Fearing I would get the normal rockshop response - wiat a week for a reply then 3 weeks for results, I was shocked to see an almost immediate response from the site saying that a new wah was leaving the warehouse now to be shipped to me. It arrived on the tuesday (free of all charges) and was ready to go for the show on Friday.

I think thats a little generic - not all NZ retail stores suck - just mostly those ones who are tied into particular brands or arrangements with manufacturers. I now get all my stuff through Guitar Gallery in Wellington, mostly becuase I know people who work there but also because I know they can get me anything I want cheaper than any other retailer in Wellington.
I do like having an actual store to go into too - and they know their shit at guitar gallery. This may have sounded like hype but I really strongly support them and what they're doing.
I'm never going back to the Rock Shop again.

Dealing with the Rockshop 101:
Customer: "Hi, I'm Sam.* I'd like to purchase a Drum Kit for my church"
Rockshop Dude: "OK, One of our staff will deliver it while i lick your asshole"
Customer: "I hope you haven't forgotten my special 'mates of jesus' rates, wink wink"
*i'd never actually go there in real life.

Interesting, the few times I have been there I thought the staff were just typical MI sales guys, didnt know all that much.
But theres one guy there who has to be the stupidest person I have ever come across in a music shop ever, didnt have a clue about anything he was trying to sell.
Also most of the stock in that store has just been parallel imported from music123.
Check out the Music Machine in Napier, I don think they hold that much stock but they have good prices.

Also check out canterbury music if you're in christchurch, has loads of random guitars and amps. They're cheaper than the rockshop, the crazy old guy there knows EVERYTHING and if you know how to haggle you'll get really good prices

Ampeg SVT4-Pro.
Rockshop: $4299
Music123.com: $2900 (inc shipping & ALL taxes)
Stupidly overpriced?
Hell yeah!
Bass players who want a new speaker cab, go to LiveSound in Grey Lynn. $2025 will get you a standard Ampeg 8x10 without the Ampeg label, or the rockshop $3500 pricetag.

While in no way wishing to promote the Rockshop there is a downside to importing gear from overseas yourself . You need to make absolutely sure that you can get warranty service in NZ for the gear you are buying. When you are forking out close to $3k for some gear you want to make sure you can get it fixed if it breaks during the warranty period. In many cases the warranty that will be included with gear bougth overseas is specific to the market it was bought in. I don't know if this is the case with Ampeg but unless you can get it in writing first I personally would be reluctant to bring the gear in and hope that the local service agent, who probably has close ties to the local importer, is willing to provide warranty service for equipment with a non NZ warranty.
Not wishing to dissuade people from purchasing over the internet but for big ticket items the initial saving may be swallowed up in frustration down the track if you cannot get warranty service during the waranty period.
And the ususal caveat applies when purchasing from the US. Make sure the equipment you are purchasing is suitable for the NZ electricity supply ... i.e. 240V 50 Hz as opposed to the US 110V 60 Hz.

When I got my Ampeg V4BH it would have been around $1600 all up from music123 (110 volt model) or $1800 for a 240 volt from bassnw.com.
NZ RRP was $3000.
I submitted that info to the rockshop price challange thing and they did it for $2000, for an extra few hundred it was just way easier.
I run it through a livesound 8x10, those things are mean.
Sounds exactly like the ampeg, but Lighter, louder and cheaper.

I could get the Ampeg 8x10 from music123 for $1800 all up.
I submitted it to the Rockshop price challange, expecting an answer within 24 hours life it said. 3 days passed, and they sent me a very arogant sounding e-mail telling me there was no way I could get it from music123 as they wouldn't quote a shipping price.
How the fuck did find out how much I could get it for? Music123 gave me a shipping price. I think Rockshop got shitting and blew smoke at music123 so they wouldn't ship cabinets after that. I didn't bother telling them about the ampeg for fear music123 would change their minds. I doubt they would've knocked too much off a $4300 amp.

I bought a step-down transformer. Converts 240V to 110V. The frequency doesn't matter at all.
