Who are some good WGTN bands at the moment?

Just what the title says.
How is the local scene going at the moment and are there any good new bands that have emerged?

Forums: NZ Music,

Just heard a demo from a band called Figurefour. A very promising demo, methinks.

i like odessa.
what does lady luck sound like?

My new favourites are Connan and the Mockasins - I don't know if they're actually new, but I only just discovered them. They're so cute! But at teh same time so respectable. I brought their EP and its all I can do to stop from boogie-ing my way to work...

In fact, I'm not even sure if they're from Wellington come to think of it.
I'm going back in my box now.

yep they're welly kids. Though connan's from Te Awanga beach. what a surprise...

add a little discription too their name so i know what genre they're doin

If you want to check out some of the newest rock genre acts in Welly then go to Valve Bar July 21st (this thursday). as Knifeparty, Miss Conduct, Fire and Psionic are playing. $5 on the door. Should be a good gig.

the genre is 'jimi'

So So Modern.

Hehe, yep- I concur!
And to that I will add {not neccessarily new, not necessarily bands, but hey!}

Shamless self Promotion: The Dukes of Leisure are a six piece sonic orchestra. We kind of play soundscapy post-rocky gooie music. My main influences: Mogwai; Godspeed you! black emporer; explosions in the sky; labradford.

EP release next friday at Valve bar. $5 on the door or $15 with an EP of 4 tasty songs mixed and recorded at Island Bay Studios with Nic McGowan...

Free live Mp3s on the website...

Dukes of Leisure are great - I agree!

NQR ... Not Quite Right are O arsum

Viscera are a pretty wicked band http://www.viscera-music.com

I heard they're playing at Indigo on Tuesday night too, free entry with cheap drinks

Viscera have thier good and bad points. Powerful voice that sounds like Mike Patton. Strong Drummer, good fills... in fact I think he only does fills... talented guitar with odd stage prescence and bass player who looks bored out of his skull playing boring bass lines.... overall good for what it is though...

bored out of his skull? More like stoned out of his tree. hahaha........

Really??? Caleb isn't it??? We haven't spoken in person for a long time. I'll have to come and visit!!!

yeah, that's the guy.... not really sure about the stoned part... but maybe lol...

Alabaster Theatre are playing next thursday (21st) at Bodega, look out for visuals (lighting, stage props etc.). Cortina should have an album out soonish and Hot Swiss... Who knows?

you see, im not in the country so i dont what most of these bands play.
Maybe a short description would help.

copy cat.

// copy cat. //

You go help record two of them and manage another...

Ha! Ho! Low!

Disasteradio:
Kraftwerky sort of stuff, very dancable, imagine sega type music and you're not even close to how good he is!

Alabaster Theatre:
Art rock, with a great drummer and keys which fatten them out as a band, great for a good night out, again easily dancable

Cortina:
Imagine the crazy spawn of disco beats with some apocalyptic lyrics and a guitarist with the spirit of 80's guitar flowing through him

Hot Swiss Mistress:
Great band in the mold of earlier Flying Nun bands, the clean, superette and the chills

Goodbye Galaxy:
Kind of like Disasteradio but hardcore :D again much fun to be had with this fellow

KARAOKE

I thought they broke up...

They can't have broken up?! Nooo...

probably the easiest thing to do would be to tell us what band you are from so people can then recommend a good appropriate support or whatever
