Justifiable 5 star reviews

I checked out the audio clips for the Skallander album on the nzmusic store (why can't it be "shop"? :( ) and reckon it's one album that's certainly justifying the big reviews. A strange mix of elements, lots of clicky glitchy gurgles and early-90s dreamy guitar thrum.

Oh, and then the occasional huge reggae riddim, but with the indie boy stuff on top and crazy inhuman skips and stutters to the beats.

Definitely one album I'll be picking up when I'm able to.

Forums: NZ Music,

Man, I meant to say that, more importantly than all this formal distinctiveness, the songs themselves sound really affecting. Well, as affecting as you can get in 30 second snippets. Keen to dig further into it..

It is a bloody good album, Jet. It'd get a 5 star review from myself. It encompasses all my blippy/choppy electronic wet dreams, tied in with pleasing yet understated guitar and vocal melodies.

If you're having trouble sourcing one, I can bring you over a copy when I come to Melbourne to see Sigur Ros at the start of August.

... I am so taken with it that when I spotted Mr Smith at a gig a couple of weeks back, I felt compelled to blurt out my fandom at him... farily drunkenly.

Haha, nice one.

I'm back in NZ about a week after Sigur Ros play, so I should have no problem getting a copy then. Thanks for the offer, though!

Just a bit of info... Sigur Ros are playing at Hamer Hall.

Is that in St Kildas? (just looking at booking accomodation.)

Hamer Hall is on St Kilda road, I guess, but it's at the start of the city end. Just over the Yarra from Flinders Station.

So basically get accommodation anywhere remotely near the city and you should be right.

There seem to be lots of backpackers in North Melbourne, assuming you're going that route. Just past the Vic Markets, if that helps. It would be a much shorter tram ride than from St Kilda.

Actually, can you drop me a line? I can't find yr email address. I'm sure I've got it at home...
