Hey I was wondering if anyone could help me, im so confused ;-(
Im looking at getting a laptop for uni, so there will be plenty of word processing but I would like to play the occasional games as well eg/ World of Warcraft etc...
Im looking at a Toshiba Satellite M40:
Centrino 2ghz
1 gig ram
80 gig Hard drive
Geforce 6600 Grpahics card with 128mb video card.
Would this be adequate or do I look ata pentium 4 or AMD 64??
I have got around $3000 to spend so Im up for suggestions

Dude, you got plenty of power. Your Centrino 2ghz will likely have a clock speed similar to a P4 running at 3.5ghz. 1 gig of ram is farking sweet. I have a quarter of that and it does the job for most game applications. Your video card will be plenty good. You will have plenty of power!!
If your worried about games, have a look at the specs needed got the latest. You will find this laptop will pretty much play any modern game with some grunt to spare. See below-
World of Warcraft needs:
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP: Check
800 MHz or higher CPU : you have over double that and then some.
256 MB or more of RAM : yup, you have 4 times that
32 MB 3D graphics card with hardware transform and lighting, such as GeForce 2 or better : no problem - you will have a 128mb card
4 GB or more of available hard drive space : stuff all
DirectX 9.0c or above: It will come with it if you don't already have it
56k or higher modem with an Internet connection: pretty standard.
Basically your laptop will go like the clappers. I'm so jelous. Oh, Torshiba is a great laptop brand as they use all their own parts instead of cheap crappy components. So they tend to have a good running life.

I have no real knowledge of this stuff (My game of choice is the couch game), but supposedly LCD screens (including laptops) refresh/respond slower, and are allegedly somewhat dis-preferred by gamers. But uh yeah, if you're set on a lap top, then a CRT screen is not much of an option.

I bought my mother something similar to this (although I think hers had better graphics). It seems to have a good deal of snot for the price, and as many widgets as you need. Personally, I'd rather have a desktop, and don't see any merit in university students having laptops (but then I might just being "I didn't need one in my day". Fucking hell. I typed up my assignments on a Commodore-64 in first year...). However, people who like laptops, like laptops, so there's not much point in trying to discourage you.
