So, I want to buy an audio interface for my mac mini. It needs to be firewire since the mac mini doesn't have a PCI slot or whatever. So what to get? I'm weighing up getting a DIGI002 or an m-audio 1814. Does anybody have either one of these and how do you like it? Anybody got something else that they think is really something special? I'd especially like to hear any recommendations from Mac users.

What software are you using .. the MOTU interfaces work well with logic audio.

I heard good things about the m-audio firewire 410 this time last year in terms of latency (figures lower than most ASIO PCI cards). wainui is right though, motu are great, but they have no distributors in NZ. which kinda sucks.
You can do the whole protools thing on m-audio stuff now apparently, not that I'd want to, heh. (coming from PC land btw)

Sorry I should have said - I really want to be able to use Protools as well, so I guess that cuts down the options quite a bit - Digi or M-audio, and that's it I think.....

completely ignoring my distaste for digital I have just finished a record in Norway where I took over my lap top (G4 powerbook with 512 RAM), a 002 and an ADAT bridge giving me 4 mic inputs and 12 line inputs. Tracked the band live on 16 tracks with absolutely no problems at all. Sounds fine for 48kHz. Overdubs were done on a Mbox with a UA610 front end. Again, no problems.
I hear the RME interfaces are good, but I think they may be optical.
