Foo Fighters-In Your Honor

Anyone got the new Foo Fighters album yet? What are your thoughts? It came out yesterday; I'm going to get it tommorow.

The first single from it "Best Of You," is quite good.

Forums: The Bar,

i just dont
think
dave is a
very good
song writer
& i think
he knows it

so his voice
never sounds
convincing

fingernails are pretty... fingernails are good.. ? what? dems some lyrical genius that is....
Dave Grohl is a damn fine drummer, i love how hard he smashes that kit, but drummers should NEVER be allowed to write lyrics. Maybe they could occasional let out a death metal growl, or a nice oooh ahh but even Meg Whites lyrics kinda suck- "And I know that you feel it too/When my skin turns into glue" mmm anyways....

dude that song is old & isn't really meant to be about anything, look at the words of WeenieBeenie or Wattershed, not much sence there either. But I don't listen to music just for the lyrics

Grohl has become more than just a drummer.
He is now this hero of American rock and more, Uncle Dave with his cheeky grin, everybody's favourite guest band member and by all accounts an amiable dude.
Obviously, his drumming is the shit, and as Foo frontman he has mastered a somewhat formulaic kind of FM rock for the everyman.
The videos are good, the songs are alright, the album's consistent, but it's hard to call them a truly great band

I find it sort of disappointing, after songs like "One by One" that he's gone back to like big radio rock songs. That was a killer song. That whole album was so much darker - maybe it had something to do with the fact that he was working with QOTSA around that time? Definitely his best work after Nirvana. this latest album pretty mcuh sucks as far as I can tell from the few songs I've heard. Rock by numbers.

//but even Meg Whites lyrics kinda suck- "And I know that you feel it too/When my skin turns into glue" mmm anyways....

Leave Meg outa this, pendejo!

And I think they were Jack's lyric's, but leave him outa this too.

kinda off subject . . . but does anyone else think that new white stripes song sounds like the eagles of death metal . . . or is it just me???

// formulaic kind of FM rock for the everyman

I remember a friend describing them as the kind of band 14 year olds love, and I have to agree. Mind you that was when they toured NZ a squillion years back. Who were they playing support for? My friend went for the main act...

Dave Grohl makes a complete dick of himself on the Michel Gondry DVD, talking about the video for 'Everlong'. He's just like "wow, yeah, it's, uhh.. I dunno.. he's such a genius, but I didn't like it, but everyone talks about it as our best video, so yeah, it's great. He's a genius." I hate people who say "genius", but he just comes off about as articulate as Keith from the Prodigy. :D

Mind you being articulate and making good music certainly don't go hand-in-hand, eh.

//Who were they playing support for?

Sonic Youth, 1996.

I absolutely love both the song 'Everlong' and the video for it, but I could happily live without third or fourth or fifth albums from them.

I do also love the songs that Louise Post wrote about Dave Grohl, but they're not the happiest things ever.

haha..jinx. same thoughts in my comment below...haha, i saw this afterwards.

Careful Joanna, mentioning those songs might bring the rage again...

Uh oh! I'm going to duck and cover now.

haha!!!

he's released the same record 5 times. The first two times i could handle it...then it got boring.

Dave Grohl is one of those musicians who has many great influences, but doesn't can't seem to bring that across in his music.

Bingo.

I still think the first two albums are really strong though.

I still think the Foo Fighters' best moment was the Big Me video - sheer, unadulturated genuis.

Another the Bingo.

FOO-TOS!

the new record wasnt as good as I thought it would be, I was kinda disappointed in it,

Seems kinda one dimensional to me, not alot of thoughts seems to have gone into the songs, and there no way this is the hardest and loudest record they have ever made... thats my view on it anyway
