I am Ride, apparently... I hate these silly quizzes to tell you the truth, but hey, idle hands and Swervedriver playing in the background can do funny things to a man.
Yeah some of their stuff is Ok I guess, I'd always visioned them as being pretty boring, but the only album I've really heard of them is "Nowhere"... I was hoping for My Bloody Valentine - they're fucking awesome
i never got Ride ... i know some people my age, into other bands i like, but they are totally obsessed by Ride, as if Ride were the messiahs of guitar music. i never ever got them, apart from the song Black Nite Crash, which (1) sounds nothing like the rest of Ride, and (2) is one of the best songs of all time. when that high hat kicks in with that off-beat beat, my god ...
"You Are... Ride. You are young at heart and full of energy. -(Not me) You are talented but very modest. (I suppose so) You are happy go lucky and care free. (Oh thats me!) You have learned to take the good with the bad and you just accept life for being what it is. (Yup) People tend to be envious of you, That's only because they don't understand you and they just want some of what you have. (Mmhmm) There's no task too hard for you and you excel at pretty much everything you try to do. ( I don't know about that...) You have a playful personallity and a beautiful inner soul." (not playful! but I like my soul!)
Cleanie, dunno if you've heard Mojave 3? That was what Neil Halstead (songwriter for Slowdive) went on to do after Slowdive. Slowdive are less obviously 60s retro though. Sorta take that melancholic English folkie stuff like Nick Drake and mix it up with the jangle of early 90s UK indie... and have Brian Eno make some funny noises for you now and then.
Their last album, 'Pygmalion', was this big shift in sound. Sounds very much like they heard Aphex Twin and tried to graft their songs on to that sort of structure. Long tracks, each one based around a single progression, maybe a couple of lines of singing if you're lucky. It gets massive props among the indie kids who love electronica, but I reckon it's icy cold...
For extra trainspotter points, Capitalrecordings and Involve did a co-release compilation last year which features Creation band the Telescopes. From memory.
Aaaaand Slowdive's 'Souvlaki' is amazing. IMHO. They weren't so hot on album titles. ;)
Man, browsing that discogs link there are so much stuff I'm so fond of there. More particular albums I used to obsess over but probably haven't heard in 5-10 years... Times change, eh.
awesome, thanks Jet. discog sounds like allmusic.com ... i'm not at all sure i'm Slowdive now, except perhaps for the one idea over several minutes with no vocals thing. and Eno flutters ala Coil or something. but the folkie ... i will definitely check them out though.

British record label, maybe the most acclaimed UK indie of the 90s. Alan McGhee sold it off in 99.
