Oh and just downloaded an album from someone called Comfort Fit from this site. A bit smooth and jazzy but hell for free it's amazing.

hey jet (bro)
13 + God was my last purchase tho more won over by Notwist songs....
The Books - purchase before that ( i have expendible income at the moment) its definitely a quiet time kinda album.... but genius... Like the way they put nonsensical spoken word samples in and sing over them... haven't heard older stuff but its supposedly better yeah?
you heard the Caribou?

Nah, haven't heard that Caribou yet. Was never a huge fan... not anti, just not particularly into it. Is this a change in sound from the last Manitoba album?

But The Books ... they are fucking amazing eh. Unless this new-y grows on me more I think their last one, 'The Lemon of Pink', will stick as my fave. Less singing, more nonsense, fewer beats, more hyper-edited guitar and cello. They're one of the few acts who make genuinely surreal music without being all "ooh ooh, I'm quirky me" about it. Haha. Maybe.

Not so convinced on 13 + God either, but there are some real tasty bits, I reckon. Still probably like the ones where the guy from the Notwist is singing more than the ones where those Anticon guys are whining away. That 'Men of Station' tune is obviously a real highlight for any Notwist fan. And that one where he's singing "we are insect speed" or something?? Got to love ESL lyrics. I still love the fact they did that song called 'One with the Freaks'. So much cooler than if it had been "of".

It's a pity, I think all this stuff has got local release in Oz, but I guess they're all real expensive / hard to find in NZ?

well it means giving money to Real Greedy, which i resent, but we get a lot thats been pressed in Aus here too. I reckon you'd like Caribou, yeah its different from the first one- and the second one which i didn't like at all. this one's a bit of a messy album, so if you don't like clutter....mmmmaybe not. Got Boom Bip? top of my list this year so far, along with Phoenix Foundation- hope you've got that one, its a masterpiece....

//Feelstyle - Break It To Pieces
yes
//13 & God
i like neon golden. i dont love it so ive put this off but i probably should listen at some point
//The Books - Lost & Safe
homeboys vocals get a little tiring but it has its moments. if they wanted to push the vocal angle they shouldve stuck with anne doerner. speaking of the books, after hearing the books joint on the last prefuse album i was pretty eager to hear 'prefuse reads the books' ep. got it yesterday and so far its boring

//all real expensive / hard to find in NZ?

The good news is that with the $ the way it is, it is cheap enough to import - I'm routinely landing things here for around $22-25 by using Amazon, which isn't bad. And a lot of the interesting music has to be imported by RG anyway. I must check out this 13 & God, and I've been reading elsewhere about the Books.

myshkin i just wish someone would give me a credit card..... this damn student Loan is weighing me down.. not that i ever intend or am statistically expected to pay the damn thing off. Thats why i'm going to vote Greens.
Check out the Earlies too if you ever liked.. LSD.. or the Beatles..

Haven't got that Phoenix Foundation album... always figure with Kiwi stuff I'll wait til I'm next in NZ or someone else can bring me things. But Myshkin is right, in general importing music has become really cheap.

Kirk - thought about trying for a Visa debit card?

Oh yeah, also going back to something you said forever ago about trying to find interesting local electronic music, I reckon these Minim nights should be pretty ace for Aucklanders. They've only been going a few weeks but have done a bunch of different things already, and big emphasis on local producers.

looks good. i hope it gets supported

my eyes kinda rolled though when she mentioned an act jamming with another band and doing dubby-hiphop beets... imo nz is saturated with that stuff- that sound permeates a lot of the nz scene. not saying its bad or doesnt have a place

Haha yeah for sure. Part of what's so impressive about someone like Phelps & Munro, I guess.

I'm totally guilty in my own tunes though...
